Happy Saturday! Party season is in full swing. In fact, I’m going to a party this afternoon. Before I take off I’ll give you something to party about: another song that has some form of paved thing to drive on mentioned in the title. Here’s one I’m sure everyone knew would be here. #5: (Get Your Kicks on) Route 66 - King Cole Trio Nat “King” Cole, or any of a thousand others. I have the Replacements’ version on my iPod! Written by Bobby Troup (who I first knew as the ER doctor on Emergency), “Route 66” is, perhaps, the ultimate road trip song. Paying homage to the Mother Road, the long-since decommissioned Route 66 that ran from Chicago to Los Angeles, “Route 66” is one of those songs that’s a purely American story. And some trivia: country singer Wynonna Judd took her name from this song (“Flagstaff, Arizona, don’t forget Wynonna”). Get your kicks with one of the great songs of American music history. And San Bernardino violent and dangerous but my neighbor. Funny how every route 66 song mentions San benardino. Is that true, as far as I remember anyway. Route 66 is neat
