he refused to learn that part of the job because...

when i was paying for the lunch we ate at the hospital canteen after mother's physical therapy session, the male staff noticed me first.
but when he realized he'll have to apply the senior citizen discount, he promptly passed the task to the female staff who was also there.
as she processed my payment, she also showed the male staff how to compute it. they are only using a calculator and adding machine, not a cash register.
but he cut her off and said, "well, we're not going to be working here very long so i don't need to know how to do that. in fact, i might even work as a gasoline boy next since the price shown on the pump is the final price."
i avoided eye contact while this was going on, just watching the female staff's hand while she handed me the form to sign, gave me a pen, went to the machine and gave me my change.
even if you only took a job because you're forced to but don't really like it and don't intend to stay there for long, would you still try to learn as much as you can?
did you ever have a job where you didn't learn anything at all?

I certainly wouldn't be that rude in front of a customer. It was probably just as well he wasn't staying long. I always learned everything there was to know in jobs even if I didn't like them.

it was annoying because it felt like i was imposing on him.
however, i do admit to eavesdropping on people talking while at work, like the salesladies at the mall while i look at things.

@sprite1950 on the one hand, it's unprofessional but also an inside peek into other professions, companies and how people/culture have changed/remained the same through the years

When I was detailed at another job I simply did not try to learn what they do in that office. Works being done in that department do not appeal to me at all lol.

@florelway so what did you notice or learn about the fish business?

@hereandthere no, that was the fish port area of which I just sat down the whole day but actually I was observing the operation and not that I don't want to learn. The one I was not interested in learning was work at the assessor's office. Simply I have no chance of growing or being promoted because I am not a licensed broker or appraiser.

I think, I will definitely use the time to learn something new irrespective of the fact, whether I stay there or not. I felt, every day is good to learn something new and we have to utilise the opportunity.
How are you dear, just back after many months.

@hereandthere Nothing dear. I was unwell in the beginning and was on leave then on regaining health back I become busy with office works. Then I spend time for some other things watching some good videos and learning knowledge.

Not really, but one job I did say I do not want it, hope I do not get it. I hope I will be fired, but sticking it out so money can make its way to this months rent. That sounds sleazy though, a lot of that kind of business is.

it's so different now. employees talk openly about their discontent not caring who hears.

it's possible the cafeteria staff are only on contractual basis (5 months) so the male one is not that diligent.
however, i have a nephew who has been in 3 different fields already but i'm sure he applies himself fully at every job even if it's just 1.5 to 2 years each

I always learn something. Especially if it is essential to my job, I make sure to learn. Yes, there have been parts of jobs I have not learned but generally that is because I am busy learning what I do need to know.
