I bet most mylotters don't do this (but they should!)

Have you ever seen a discussion come up in the most recent activity list and wondered if you've responded to it? I know I have.
Sometimes these discussions seem familiar, but you aren't sure whether you've responded to it because it seems just like one of those generic posts that come up so often here on mylot.
You want to respond to it, but again, what if you already have? I come across this conundrum ever so often, and this is what I do.
I click the CTRL + F button and then type in my username and hit enter. It will then show me that it has found 1 occurrence. It always will because our username is displayed at the top of every page. However, if it says I have 2 occurrences of my username I know I've responded. I then click the "next" button and look at what I have had to say. I check to see if there's something else I can say, or I just leave it.
Do you do this?

Wouldn't be better to open the discussion to find out instead of playing with Ctrl key

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes. This is good to know. Sometimes I forget if I answered or not. It's a good idea.

I've never had to do this before, but it is a neat trick. I'll have to keep it in mind for if I ever become as active as I should.

I didn't realize that either. But it's still good advice for other sites.

@nonersays Yep, I agree it is.
I am such a ditz sometimes, this isn't the first time JJ has had to point something out to me.

I use it on other sites as well. JJ pointed out that if you HAVE responded, your response will show at the top of the discussion, which I didn't even think about.

Well I hope you don't run into anything, that would be painful.

If for some reason I am unsure if I had responded yes I go to the discussion in question and I just look to how many people liked the discussion and my name will come up there if I have. It is at the bottom of the discussions. How and who have liked the discussion because for me I never like a discussion if I am not responding to it.

@TiarasOceanView I pass many discussions right by as well. I have a group of people I respond to the most, but there are times I just have nothing to say and will like their discussion to let them know I've seen it.

Ah, see that wouldn't necessarily work for me because I don't always like a discussion or a comment. It just varies for me. I am more likely to "like" when I have nothing more to say.

I hope so. Though JJ points out that your response shows up at the top, I still think it can be useful for those who are looking for a specific comment as well.

On what page do you do the CTRL F? I don't do that often but i sometimes go to my activity page to see what I've commented on.

I do it when I go to a discussion, but JJ pointed that if I've responded to a discussion, my response will pop up first.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Gotcha. But your response will pop up first only if you were the last one to reply to the discussion.

My response is first, so I just check that. I do the discussions from Their Discussions and keep track as I go along.

Yeah, JJ reminded me of that.
I have some trouble with notifications sometimes, whether it by my own error, a site error or a mixture of the two. Today I noticed that I got a new notification for a response that I had already commented on, and underneath that notification was a notification for the same comment thread, only newer and valid (as in, I had not yet responded to it).

Your response is first if you responded last. But if others responded after you you are no longer first.

@lovebuglena When I go to check if I've responded, my response is always first, isn't yours?

yep, I use this for plenty of sites. especially on IMDb when an actor has a long filmography list and I want to find a specific movie

OOh yes, I forgot about IMDB. I've definitely used it for that site before, and also for wikipedia.

@isweartokira I've used it on TOS a time or two when i wanted to make sure of something. It's come in handy ever since I learned about the function all those years ago.
