we ran out of cooking gas on the morning of our annual reunion lunch.
click, click, click, no flame just when my sister was about to cook several dishes.
thankfully, the supplier was open even if jan 1st is a non-working holiday here.
however, it took longer than usual to arrive because the guy said they were swamped with orders.
did you ever run out of or forget something important on the day of an event at home?
a tank of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) was only 600 pesos (US$ 11.81) last november 21st, but yesterday jumped to 700 pesos (US$ 13.78).
what was your first expense for 2020?

It was yesterday when my son had a visit to the dentist. I thought it was just a simple tooth extraction. It cost me more than 10k!

@hereandthere an x-ray was done, plus cleaning, filling of one tooth and the extraction which took almost 3 hours!

mother wanted that before - have an extra tank on standy. eventually we stopped doing that because we found a supplier nearby. we also have a lower headcount now and don't cook much anymore or just buy cooked food at the many eateries that sprouted here

@hereandthere I can understand that. When we were in Singapore it seemed no-one cooked much at home.

Oh gosh, you are so fortunate the supplier was available to save the day!
We baked a bunch of things for the family for New Year's Day (Japanese style get together at my parents' home as we do every year) . . . but none of my baked things were fit enough for dessert. I attempted to make a Japanese cheesecake for the meal end - but it was a baking fail - not bad entirely but tasted too eggy and was dense. So before we drove to my parents, we bought a small layered cake with fruit on top from the grocery store (most stores seem to be open here). It was about $17
.
Happy New Year, hereandthere!

Well, that was bad timing! I remember forgetting dessert once for a get together dinner with friends. It happens especially when having many people over. My first purchase was to restock up on food items.

I am glad that they were open, and it seems as if it was a very profitable day for them with so many orders that came in.
I still haven't made my first expense of the year.
