Things that I want

United States

This is more of a way to hold myself accountable. There are many things that I want to buy, but that I don't necessarily need. Last year I did some buying of things that I didn't need, but most of my money was spent on things that I actually did need. This year I'd like to spend more on myself while also saving. Here is a list of things that I need with the last thing I'll list being the most important. Feel free to tell me some things you don't necessarily need, but want. I want some LED lights for my bookcase. I also want to get some light clips to clip lights around my room. I want to buy enough books to fill up my new bookshelf. The books I had on two small bookcases now just fills two shelves on one bookcase. I would like to get kindle unlimited again. I got rid of it for last year, but this year I would like to get it again. $10 a month might not seem like much, but it adds up. I'd like to stay ahead on my cellphone bill. I am always able to pay it every month, but I'd like to be able to pay a couple of months at a time instead of monthly. I'd like to go on a cruise with friends. This will require the most money, and won't be something done this year. Even if we don't end up going on that cruise, I'd like to be able to take a nice vacation out of the area, if not out of the State. I have made goals for myself to accomplish these things. They aren't resolutions because I never follow those. What are somethings you want to buy but can't necessarily afford at the moment? Are you making efforts to afford them this year? Bonus want: I would like to get a DVR, but it's not something I necessarily need. I don't watch much television so it would be more of a waste.

You want to buy outright, or would you be okay with rent to own?

Hmm well I have boots but they are ugly, not very comfortable and not as waterproof as I prefer. So I want new boots but haven't bought any yet and Im not sure if I will. I want to take more time to read but then I won't have as much time to earn online. I already have way to many books and I would love to clear some room off on the shelves so they aren't piled up everywhere. I pay for my cell phone bill three months at a time. It saves $5 if I remember correctly then another $5 I think for the auto pay. I have Straighttalk.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I just paid online now mines set up to auto renew. They have higher speeds and data plans for cheap. I’ll never switch! I’ll have to look up the exact amount I am charged a month. Yeah I was thinking tonight I should try to read a book each week. Midway through 2019 I was only doing about one a month.

I used to have straight talk, and I paid monthly. Do you just get the three month cards and load those onto your phone? I pay $36 a month for metropcs, but it doesn't have the best service. Yes, I want to earn a lot online this month and this year, but I still want to take time out to read so...

@shaggin I switched because, well I don't rightly remember. It was partially the bill, but partially an issue with customer service. I pay less and I am happy with what I pay now. Maybe you could read for an hour before bed each night. That's a good way to do it.

Your list certainly looks like achievable goals. I'd like to save money this year. Like you I would like a nice vacation. My one big expense that don't need but would like.....the interior of the house painted. It's a big job but it would be nice having a fresh coat of paint on all the walls.

I would like most of the walls here repainted as well, but that is not going to happen. There is so much more that needs to be done before. Good luck on your savings goals. You will see me around a lot more as I try to achieve everything I've set out to achieve.

@Marilynda1225 I am pretty good with mylot, I just need to get to doing more in between mylotting I think. I mean, I am doing pretty well for myself here, but at the cost of having time for myself. I still get the chores done, but by the end of the day I have maybe 30 minutes to do what I want to do before I want to go to bed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm hoping to spend more time here also. I need to prioritize the things I do each day and myLot needs to be moved closer to the top.

I want a side deck on my tiny house and put a small roof over it and maybe enclose a couple sides so I can put a small horse trough to use as a summer soaking tub. I would need to add a water facet outside on the house and a drain to the tub to go off the deck. I probably won't go that far but am planning the deck at least. My daughter is holding an envelope I gave her and I'm adding money monthly to it. She has it in her safe where I can't get it to use on other stuff.

That's awesome! I am glad your daughter is doing that for you. Are you already in the tiny home? I know that we have talked about this before, but I don't remember when you were projecting to be able to have it built and move in.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I moved into it May 31st after my floor went in. I painted the sheet rock and decided not to wait until the wood walls went in. Here is a photo from last winter. I need to get a close up but I always seem to remember at night.

I'm going to send you a message on the latter, but for the former it seems like you are doing pretty well in that regard.

@thislittlepennyearns I guess you saw. So are you looking to work for only one person via fiverr or are you open to working with more provided you can get all the orders done?

Oh gosh, my list could go on forever . If anything I want to focus on getting rid of things this year rather than get more stuff. But as far as buying . . . I want to do up our front and back yard once and for all . . . not hire a landscaper but get materials and do it ourselves (which still costs).

@ScribbledAdNauseum Thanks - it will take a lot of time and effort too (and we don't have a lot of time ). But we can try, right? I like buying plants on clearance . . . I actually enjoy nursing plants back to life, but it doesn't always work out that way. Yah, there's no shortage of things to add to our lists .

@much2say I do not have a green thumb at all. I would not be able to nurse any plant back to health, unfortunately. As long as you keep chopping away at it, little by little, you'll get your yard looking the way you want it to.

I hope you can get the front and back yard looking the way you want it. Yeah, it can be costly but it's definitely cheaper than paying someone else to do it. Try to find things that you'll need when they are out of season as that usually makes them cheaper. I wish you luck on that. My list could go on and on and on as well. I've already thought of five other things that I could have added.

@Tina30219 I found it throguh Safiya Nygaard. So if you type in something like "Safiya Nygaard nail polish" you should find it. She and this lady went to a place where they mixed their own nail polish.

There is a nail channel that you just made me think of with that nail light thing... I can not remember the name of the channel but she has her own nail polish line.. Something with the word taco in the name....

I do not need another purse! I keep telling myself that, but for some reason I cannot not buy one. So my husband suggested me something: I cannot buy another purse until I sold one that I no longer use or want. So far it has been working for me, plus it helps with the clutter in my closet.

That's great. I need another purse to be honest but I am so picky. I have two purses but really need a third one. For me it is blankets. I love to get blankets though I do not necessarily need more of them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I already have lots, it's actually embarrassing to mention the number. That is my thing - some women collect makeup, my brothers collect action figures and video games. I have a co-worker who collects cowboy boots. And hello, I'm Raine and I'm a purse addict.

@Raine38 My sister is a shoe collector. I don't know if she's as bad as she once was, but I was pet sitting for her a few years ago and had reason to go to her room where I saw atleast 12 pairs of tennis shoes. Maybe I should say that she collects tennis shoes. My ex husband used to collect star wars figures and beanie babies.

I unexpectedly got some money for Christmas. I was going to spend some of it on a new bra, but I decided not to. I also want some earrings which I probably will get. I also looked at some necklaces, but I have decided to not get a necklace. I also want a shirt I saw which I probably will get. I also want to get some ebooks that I can't get on Overdrive which I might get.

Girl, for some reason a new bra is just something I don't spend money on myself for. Really! I had a friend give me two bras that she can't fit into anymore, and those are the newest ones I got. I wear them until I can't anymore... I've been thinking of re-piercing my ears. I've been thinking about starting a little e-book fund for myself, but then I decided I should just get kindle unlimited again. I think I'll do the 12 month subscription or something, just to save money.

@JESSY3236 I only wear them when I am out. As soon as I get home the torture device gets taken off. So I really only need one or two.

I want and need to save for my travel expenses for the next years to come.
• United States

Traveling can be so expensive. I will have to not only save around $1,200 for the cruise, but I'll have to save for the plane ticket both to Washington and back from Washington. I am not sure how much that might cost me though.

Have you ever gone to a library book sale? They are great; and you can fill your bookcase for a fraction of the cost. I would like to buy a house in the Florida Keys...not something we can afford.

I am not sure if they have those here. I am sure they most likely do. I go to a thrift store that has books anywhere from five cents to $30.00. I also sell this place things and get vouchers. I used to have a lot to sell but don't have as much anymore. I was going home with books "for free" because of the vouchers I would get from them for things I didn't want. Another house, or a house instead of what you have now?

@LindaOHio Ah I see. That would be a drastic change in weather as well. No more snow to deal with, but there'd still be lots of rain I think. The property values are high in the keys aren't they?

Thank You. I appreciate that. I went ahead and paid my phone bill though it isn't due for another week. I decided to pay a few dollars extra on it this month, and then I'll probably do the same next month. After that, I think I'll go for $5.00 extra instead of the $2.00 extra. I don't want to have to think about my phone bill at all the last few months of the year.

@ScribbledAdNauseum wow ...that is a good going. Better to spend money wisely before it gets spent on something useless
