Copyright Claim for Unpublished Video

Twin Hanging Bridge in Sevilla Bohol, Philippines

What a waste of time! I think I spent more than an hour compiling photos and videos about the twin hanging bridge in Bohol, Philippines. I was editing the compilation and of course, added music from our Windows 10 app. Then I uploaded the finished video to my youtube channel when I thought it was already good and ready to be published. I scheduled to publish it on the 11th of this month. When I was done, I received an email from youtube that a company has claimed for the copyright on what´s on my video. What? It was not published, yet and there was already a complaint? The video is mine and I took it myself. I am the sole owner of my video. After a few minutes of thinking, I searched for that company and found out that there are plenty of complaints about this company. Claiming copyrighted content of videos that they don´t own. I don´t like trouble and so I deleted the uploaded and unpublished video on my channel. Then I deleted it on my files and made the same video again but without music. My voice and the sounds of the surrounding is enough. Have you experienced this? It was stress. Now I am uploading again but without music. I don´t give up. I hope you have a stressfree day/evening. Thanks for reading my rant.

Youtube's system is very very sensitive when it comes to music in videos. The entire system needs to be revamped, but instead they keep "upgrading" it making it more impossible for users. If you want free music, just use Youtube's royalty free music and if anything says to credit the artist, do it because even though it is free people get grumpy.

@hereandthere Yes the YouTube audio library. YouTube seems to have become too harsh in certain areas.

I think it was not the video that they are complaining about but the background music you mixed in. I think you should use the common background music instead of those that are recent music. I think my company has also experienced that when we created our own video and added music someone complained that the music we used was copyrighted and we should ask for permission to the composer of that music to allow us to use the music for the video.

I know that we should ask permission @rsa101. The background music was from the windows app that I have for free but apparently, it was not free. So, I deleted that video with that music and uploaded a new one without that music. Now I am safe. Thanks for commenting.

YouTube is very strict about music. When you upload something they immediately scan the music and they are quick to stop the video to be posted.

@thelme55 This is true, but they should be more precise to explain what is exactly the problem.

Yes, they are @LadyDuck. It was good that youtube sent me an email so I was warned and was able to delete it before it was published. It is good to be vigilant for the scammers.

I too have a small youtube channel, yes so many company that claims copyright content around youtube, but your story is outrageous, how did they manage to see your videos that you haven't published yet, that's not suppose to happen, maybe I have to try that

@thelme55 That was a new thing to think about, special privilege is given to companies such as that one, just my speculation anyways

I have no idea @ricotivi. Maybe there is an automated app in youtube where they can detect something copied even if it is not published yet.

We too have had a few copyright claims on a couple of our videos. In one case we have given the reference of the site - Epidermic sound from where we downloaded, and we still have the claim. I am not sure how we get more information and whether we re-edit it?

@thelme55 Yes but at times, there is some song that is good, and suits a particular video. Then things become trickier.

Youtube told me not to delete it unless there is really a problem with that complaint but I don´t like to risk. One of my articles in Hubpages was and still is copied by a selling site. I have given up sending complaints to that Chinese company. No use. Thanks, @DianneN. I am relaxed now eating popcorn while mylotting

It's either the "claimant" is greedy to get it's piece of the monetized content or maybe it's YouTube's algorithm... You're not the only one who's experiencing this, In fact there was a famous song composer here in the Philippines that made a guitar tutorial of his song and YouTube took a copyright claim to a song that he created. He had no choice but to fought the copyright claim saying that he contributed to the original track because he is the composer of the song... yes, it's a tedious process but you need to fight for your truth right? For me if i was in your situation, i'd rather chose royalty free music that is readily available on the YouTube platform that way you won't have any problem with your hardwork you put in your content (i know how hard it is to edit a video lol ) But you did a good job on uploading the video in it's raw form (no background music). Thanks for sharing!
