Memories of Teen Romance

In high school, I was madly in love with my boyfriend. His name was Howard and I fondly called him Howie. If I had a pet name for him that has slipped my mind. What I do have from those days are pictures of us together and one school picture which he gave to me with a specially written message to me. Another souvenir which has stood the test of time is a bracelet which he gave me as you can see in the photo.
I remember that we were in a Woolworths store and he noticed that you could buy these bracelets and have them engraved. My girlfriends were with us also so he sent us off to shop while he got it engraved. Simply Sandra and Howard 3-10-74. I used my middle name in high school because my first name Rasma was hard for others to remember or pronounce. However, my closest friends called me Rasy or Ras.
I have taken pictures of these memories. Howard and I have caught up with each other through all of these years and are friends on Facebook. I was so very happy to know that he had found the true love of his life and had a wonderful family. Go figure how things work out in this life. Both Howard and my soul mate and love of my life Martin were born in July so both are Cancer. It worked out with one and not with the other.
As you know I keep all my work saved up in folders on my PC and now and then I do a thorough cleaning deleting what is no longer relevant or needed. I came across this piece that I had written in 2014. It is now interesting to note that an inanimate object like a bracelet endures the test of time but people do not. I found out that my first love Howard has joined my last love Martin up in the heavens. For me, it is like an entire era has ended but I am glad for the memories that remain.
Heck, you’ve seen bracelets before and I have described it here. Ready or not, a blast from the past and that is the photo my mom took of the two of us, me and Howie headed off to the prom.
I leave you with the one and only song that really brings back my memories of high school and always pastes a smile on my face ”Glory Days” by Bruce Springsteen.

@Fluera Like most teen romances we just drifted apart, I saw him once or twice more just to get together and I remember at that time we met at a bar and the song playing was the right song about him You're Still the Same by Bob Seger and then time went on. For a while, I saw his mom and helped her with things because she had become partially blind and I have a special kind of angel statue that she gave me

@RasmaSandra I guess... young love can be so very intense so I find it hard to imagine things just fading away.

@RasmaSandra I remember my first girlfriend--it was rumored her parents were 'communists' as if we even knew what a communist was!!

@GreatMartin that is a frightening thought. I had never thought in my wildest dreams I would catch up to my first boyfriend. I was in contact with my girlfriends and suddenly on one site I was writing for I get a message from him that simply said Remember me? Which made me think of that very old line every breeze whispers Louise but I was no Louise lol and that comes from good old Maurice Chevalier

I'm sorry to hear about Howard. My first love passed on when he was 47. I never got the opportunity to talk with him when he got older. Photos are a wonderful thing to have.
