The “class of 2020” inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced today.
While they did get a couple of things right — the long-overdue induction of the Doobie Brothers being the chief thing — they did a MAJOR ball-drop here. No Todd Rundgren. No Kraftwerk.
Pat Benatar was not one of the inductees. The Notorious B.I.G., on the other hand, was.
What is wrong with this picture? All I can say is NO. Just plain freaking NO!!!!!!!!!!!
Y’know, a few years ago, after his induction, Steve Miller unloaded with both barrels about how the Hall of Fame needed to induct more women. Pat Benatar’s snub proves that he might have a point...and that there’s something a lot more rotten in Cleveland than the river.
The 2020 inductees:
*Depeche Mode (startling, considering everything else)
*Doobie Brothers
*Whitney Houston
*Nine Inch Nails
*Notorious B.I.G.
*T. Rex
Additionally, producer Jon Landau and longtime manager Irving Azoff were inducted.
It’s good that Bob Wills is inducted as an “early influence,” because he had the perfect song for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME.

I am happy for the Doobies and Depoche Mode. I knew Whitney would get in but not at the expense of Pat. No Pat and B.I.G. in is beyond outrageous. I have read a torrent of anger and fury over this year's selections.

I hope that “torrent of anger and fury” turns into financial woes for the mistake by the lake.
I went back and checked my discussion when the nominees were announced, and I said then if Benatar didn’t make it something was WRONG. And man, is something ever wrong.

@FourWalls I also find fault with voters who cast 200,000 more votes for Dave Matthews than Pat. He pales compared to her. There must be a reason why Jann Wenner and the HOF are against her just as they are against Foreigner and the Monkees and waited until Linda got Parkinson's. There have been reverse racism accusations that Pat's skin color is too light and it's all about color and diversity. I like Nine Inch Nails but they aren't HOF worthy. Over the significance and influence of Kraftwerk? A quick fix to solve the HOF's lack of women inductees: Pat, Go Go's, Bangles, Petula Clark, Jackie DeShannon, Runaways, Annie Lennox, Carole King (as performer), Carly Simon, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Karen Carpenter. So what if in some cases are more soft pop or folk or borderline. Sure as hell more deserving that freakin' B.I.G. Hell, Helen Reddy is more deserving that B.I.G.

@JohnRoberts — an absolutely brilliant observation that everyone should read.
Especially the R&R HofF voting community.

The Browns are enough pain for one city, aren’t they?

@FourWalls I think the title "Cleveland Rocks" need to be revoked.

How does Joan Jett get in and they don't induct Pat Benatar??? Come on, this is a travesty
Glad the Doobies got in, saw them in concert pre Mc-Doobie and they rocked it out
Todd Rundgren was left out? "Something/Anything wrong with this? He should have gotten in on his production skills alone, especially for his work on a number of artists albums.

I agree. Even Judas Priest hasn't gotten in, and that's really infuriating to me.

Notorious B. I. G. does not deserve it.
