Yesterday I posted that I had started this book by Matthew Harffy. It is a book that I came across on amazon after using the filters to pick historical fiction and books under the Kindle Unlimited Program.
It is not my normal type of reading, though I have read books similar to this in the past. I kept expecting there to be some sort of, if not romance, a coming together of souls between the two main characters. One was an "old man" though he was only around 50 years old. The other was "not quite a woman, but not quite a child either."
Dunston, the old man, came across a mutilated corpse whilst checking his traps for food. Actually it was Odin, his dog, that first came across the carcass, but Dunston soon found the poor fellow himself. Shortly thereafter he came across Aedwyn, and their adventure began.
He took the girl and the body of her father to the town closest to his home, and to the Reeve (Sheriff), but found himself accused of the crime.
I won't go into more detail, but will say that the book led us on an adventure where the reader became more and more vested in the success of their mission, and the hope that they would both survive. Dunston met several of his old friends along the way, and had his agility and fighting skills tested as he went on the path of finding the truth and exonerating himself.
Would I read this again? Yes.
What type of book or movie is your least favorite?
AD 838. Deep in the forests of Wessex, Dunston's solitary existence is shattered when he stumbles on a mutilated corpse. Accused of the m...

It sounds like a real adventure. It is something I might want to read.

Historical fiction tends to bore me {written word rather than film; love a good Vikings episode!}, although I read The Witch Finder's Sister and enjoyed that fictional take on Matthew Hopkins. Except, I think that was mostly because it was set in places I was emotionally invested in as a child. However, I do like historical fiction written when it was present fiction. Thomas Hardy is a personal favourite ... love Tess of the D'Urbervilles muchly.
Hate 'Chick Lit'.

I will consume it via book, television drama and documentary. That's one thing I'm not really picky about. Though I have never seen Vikings.

I read this not long ago and thought it was good so read the series he wrote called bernicia chronicles which were ok but get samey if you read them one after the other.
I think the wolf will turn into a series like his other one.
Try the john shakespeare books by rory clements and the shardlake series by cj sansom as they are both excellent and my favourite two historical series.

Yes, I half expect there to be more from this story as well, and will just wait for that. I looked at his other novels, but none of them jumped out at me like this one had.
I'll have to write those two other authors down and see if I can find them at the thrift store before I buy them from amazon.

It was very interesting, and I was happily surprised by it. There was a bit of gore in it, but the overall message of the story was good.

Is it a series or just the one book? You should share the journey on The Crazy Book Lady lol :)

I probably will in a bit, I hadn't thought about that. It's just one book, but it sort of seems like they're going to make it intoa series.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It sounds interesting :) I don't think I've read a book set in the past in a while. I think the last one was a romance by Hannah Howell, she sets hers in Scotland I believe

There is a series I've talked about here that I think you'd like. It's a bit of an adventure type, but it has a sort of amish feel to it. They are older books, written by a Swedish Author.

It was hard to put down.
Comedies are okay, but I prefer stand up comedies.

The chapters were somewhat short as well, maybe ten or so pages each.

Thanks for the review. Sounds good. I don't like horror (I do like thrillers) books or movies that you watch and stuff is constantly jumping out from the dark. I don't like to jump while watching a movie.

I scare easily so I understand. I don't watch many horror movies myself for that reason.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Love stories. They bore me.I prefer reading about politics, wildlife and jungle adventures, and history of India during Mughal and British rule.

@Shivram59 Yes, it is what makes us unique, it's what shapes our characters.

I like love stories every once in awhile, but like you, I prefer history. I like fictional though, so that I can do my own research.
