Strike day

Today most of our schools were closed, teachers and other school workers were on strike. My son didn't have classes but my daughter had.
I most confess that I am not a strike person but I fully agree with their reasons and when nothing else works, strike is people last chance to make their voices heard.
Have you ever gone on strike?
Picture of the movement.

Yes, I have. It was a teacher’s strike and began just as I began my very first year of teaching.
I wouldn’t dare cross the picket line, especially since my husband was leading a strike as President of his school system.
We had just returned from our honeymoon, and half the time I could only see him on TV giving interviews to the press.
Those strikes were settled to the benefit of the teachers in my system and his system and well worth it.

I have always held management positions, and usually workers in management can't or don't go on strike. In my current position working in government, it is illegal for me or my coworkers to strike.
I am generally not a fan of strikes either, and most of the time I disagree with the reasons why people go on strike, but sometimes I do support their efforts. It just depends on what the issue is.

Neither do I, but I am supportive of them. Due to the economic issues my country faced, during the last seven years, their salary stayed the same and this year the government only wants to give them more 0,03%, which is ridiculous, it is very very low.

While I was working no. But lived through some strikes in my lifetime. Too bad they didn't opt to keep working and arbitrate, that way they still get paid and nothing disrupted, while they keep trying to come up with a contract they like. Well, I hope it ends quickly so things can go back to normal.

Locally, too, teachers are the lowest paid in the nation and the Union is trying to change it.

Sometimes strikes are necessary if the authorities or Governments are not listening at all.
However I have seen many politically motivated strikes, which turn violent and at times, there is a loss of life too.

Peaceful demonstrations are fine, violent ones are not.

Teachers and other school works had the same salary for more than 7 years with no raises and now the government only wants to increase their salaries by 0,03%, which is quite low, even ridiculous.
