How is everyone doing? Today is Saturday, the FIRST day of February, and I am writing this from work which has not been busy as of yet. I am happy to report I am on DAY 3 of not smoking cigarettes. Sorry MyLot, but I am going to be using you to keep me accountable.....Much like I should do in other areas of my life, financial, weight loss, etc - but one thing at a time here.
I haven't smoked any cigarettes since Wednesday at 11pm, so I am working through day 3. It's my first day of WORK where I have quit smoking, the last two days I have been fof of work. I don't know what's harder, quitting while at home on a "weekend day" or quitting while working ten hour days. I do think work days will be easier since I will be kept more busy with, you know, work.
What have I noticed right away? Luckily, I haven't been hungrier than normal which is great news. I haven't been monitoring my weight as closely as I need to during this transition, because I will NOT be gaining any from this. I also haven't yet started running, which I wanted to do the very DAY I stopped smoking, but I have been out of commission largely with a head cold, with vritually no energy.
Yet, days 1 and 2 with no nicotine:
*I was IRRATIONALLY MOODY and ANGRY. I started crying a couple of times out of frustration even for really small, dumb things. I have read online that nicotine withdrawal can cause feelings of anxiety and depression. I definitely felt the depression feeling BIG TIME. Also a desire to "do something" but unsure of what.
*My pulse is noticably down, according to my fitbit. When I am resting and even caffeinated, it is much lower than it has been in between cigarettes. I will keep working on this, as my plan is to start jogging.
*No noticeable difference with better breathing. Maybe because I have had a sore throat for the past 6 days, that could be related.
*No noticeable difference in smelling or tasting. No noticeable difference in whitening of teeth, sleep quality, quality of exercise (have only walked slowly on treadmill since I got sick).
That's where we are at. I believe that since I have made it 3 days, nearly 72 hours, I am basically good to go. I have my nicotine gum and a nicotine inhaler (the inhaler doesn't do much, it's like 2 mg, and there's no vapor or smoke, just a nasty taste that you breathe in, but I do think it's helping a little bit, and doesn't have any of the chemicals in cigs).
If you quit smoking, when was the hardest time? Was it the very first day? Did you experience any "mood" issues like I did? Or, what do you remember about the quitting process. Did it get easier after X amount of days?
Please do share, and any motivation/inspiration is appreciated also. Thank you all and wish me luck.

Congrats on how far you have already come!! I've been smoke free for 2 years now, God did it for me. I was seeking the Lord and His Spirit came over me, it was amazing.
What helped me the first few days was staying busy, and growing in my walk with God. I did not gain weight from quitting.
I cried the first day, a lot. It's something we don't even realize that we have emotional ties with. Sounds crazy I know but emotionally we do get attached to cigs. It's a part of our lives for years...
After the first week for me it became easier and I grew more in my spiritual walk too. Everyone is different though. I never ever thought I would be an ex smoker.
I tried quitting on my own and didnt do it but this last time with God's help the battle was won!!

OMG I am glad I am not alone with the crying. I also at some point was like ; what’s the point of life without cigraettes when I enjoy them so much and am so miserable without them? I am glad God has been a good tool to help you quit. I am not religious but I am hoping starting jogging and fine tuning my other healthy habits will help. Thanks for sharing your experiences and positivity!!

As an encouragment, I can tell you that my dad stopped smoking after over 50 years, and he started to enjoy the taste of food and was happy about it..

I never knew you smoked! But good on you for quitting! Keep fighting the good fight, it will eventually get easier.
