Good News Bad News

So the good news I paid off all my debt, I didn't buy a new car yet, I have 5 months. The bad news, I was told this morning that the company I work for will be closing their doors as of June 30th and we will all be out of a job. I guess it's not all bad since I have 5 months to find something new and I have been saying for a while that I wanted to find something closer to home. I guess this will really light a fire under my butt to get out there and find something. I will miss somethings about this place but if I can find something closer to home I will not miss the drive to and from work each day. As you can tell I'm trying to look at the bright side of it and not worry about the things I can not change. It kind of sucks but what can you do? No need to stress about it and worry about it. I know a couple people here are freaking out big time about it. Two people asked if they could take personal time and head home cause they were freaking out. I personally wont let it bother me, those things happen in life, it's not like it is the first time I had to look for a job. I actually kind of think it was nice of them to tell us now rather than wait till June 30 and tell us not to come in tomorrow the company is closed like a lot of other companies would have done. So the search begins tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the bad news, but fortunately, they gave you a long notice. Don't waste time, as 5 months go awfully fast.

@Bensen32 That is great news. That is not good news about your job. Maybe it was an omen for you to be able to find a job closer to home. That is good that they told you. Some places wait till the last minute.

@Bensen32 There are places that do not tell their employees ahead of time and wait till the last minute and then screw up their lives even more and leave them hanging.

At my job, I came back from my break and all my things were packed up in my cubicle. They led me to a room and told me everyone was being laid off. I got severance pay, but the whole thing was a shock, so I'm glad they let you know so far in advance.

Yea, I was with a company in the past that did that to us. Well they let us work in the morning like nothing was going on and at about 1 pm I got called in and told they were letting some people go cause they were downsizing and I was one of them. Thanks. But at least this time I have some heads up that it is coming. So I got to get out there and find a job before then.

Well a good news, bad news type scenario I guess. I am thinking about a car too..but it will depend on how much work mine needs to pass inspection. I don't have to worry about that for several months yet htough.

I was kind of surprised but not really, the company has been slow for a while so I guess I knew it was going to come sooner or later if things didn't change. I do not think we will be getting severance since they are closing the business. Hopefully I can find something before then so then I wont even need to worry about that.
