Yeah, yeah, I know. If Merle said “It’s not love but it’s not bad,” then you can put today’s rock entry in the top ten of favorites with “love” in the title under “it’s not exactly rock, but it’s not bad.” I’ll bet you thought I’d forgotten these guys, right? Of course not! #8: Best of My Love - Eagles It was just a question of what “love” song would show up, right? With options like “Victim of Love” and “You Never Cry Like a Lover” I had an option or two! Did you know this was the first #1 song for the Eagles? This gorgeous, soft, country-tinged love — well, as close as they ever got — song topped the charts at the end of 1974 and beginning of 1975. Then they followed that up with a danceable, R&B-flavored #1 in “One of These Nights.” No, the Eagles weren’t one-trick ponies. (And yes, I mean “were,” past tense. I don’t consider that band on the road today the Eagles. It should more aptly be called “Don Henley and Friends.”) That’s one of the reasons they’ve long been a favorite of mine: if you don’t care for the genre in this song, wait till the next song on the album (although this was the last song on that album! ), and the genre will change. Best of My Love Written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and J.D. Souther Recorded by the Eagles From On the Border, 1974 Cheap talk and wine:

Did not know that was there first #1 for the Eagles. With songs like "Witchy Woman, Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling" guess it took a couple of albums for the buying public and radio DJ's to warm up to those high flying boys
