In these days I seldom will go out unless I need to buy some food and groceries. I found I can plant the green onion easily at home. Chop the green parts from the green onion and then put the rest inside the vase. Just fill it with water and that's all. It is better for it gets some sunshine and soon the green parts will grow. What a nice way to have forever green onion

How long does one green onion last . . . I mean will it literally grow for a long time? We use green onion all the time and I know this is possible (I just forget and end up throwing the root end away ).

@youless You should, or soon they will rotten and the water surely smells bad.

@youless certainly. If I remember I will try to start it before our trip tomorrow as I know it will take a while to produce roots anyway.

Planting it with water is much more convenient than soil

@youless Yes, and the green keeps on growing up. You only have to cut the upper part of the onion when you need it in cooking.

What a great idea. I'll be doing this next time I buy spring onions. I usually chop up the bits and freeze them.
