Did you know that there were actually 2 civil wars in the US?

the first one happened 30 years before the second. There was a dispute between the Mormons led by Brigham Young and others in the State of Michigan. There was a disputed gubernatorial election.
From there well all heck broke loose.
The Mormons owned and were living in the northern part of Michigan and many of them lived on an island in Lake Michigan.
The picture is from that island. Beaver Island Michigan!

It is not history that forgets but schools that don't have time to teach history as they are too busy teaching for tests-- certainly NOT the teacher's fault!

it is a bit worrisome to teach for tests, but you lose funding if you fall below the line.

@LadyDuck sadly history books are more often wrong than we would like. It is listed in the many books used in college-level US History here now, that there were two!

I read of a woman who went looking for a story for 'Black History Month' and discovered Maine had had a lot of slaves at one time, about which she'd known absolutely nothing.

yes there has, in particular, this was the first time they openly rebelled. They ended up leaving Michigan and heading west!

I knew the Mormons had problems just about everywhere they went; but I hadn't heard about this.

No, I didn't know. I knew they traveled to Utah, and maybe this was why.
