With so many songs that have that title, some people might be expecting the great Van Morrison song or even the Allman Brothers. But John knows who’s coming. Here’s today’s song on my list of favorites with “love” in the title.
#2: Crazy Love - Poco
I remember hearing Poco’s Indian Summer on the “underground” (translated: not “mainstream” enough for the daytime) nighttime broadcasts from a radio station in Savannah. Yes, Poco was a “cult favorite” band but never a “mainstream” act....much like so many other acts in the 70s like Little Feat and the Grateful Dead.
Then, something happened: Randy Meisner left the Eagles. What does that have to do with Poco? Simple: the Eagles stole Poco’s bass player, Timothy Schmit. Poco had an album ready, their final recording with Schmit, but ABC Records refused to release it. So remaining frontmen Rusty Young (the only member in Poco from the beginning) and Paul Cotton decided they’d retire Poco and continue as a duo.
Then MCA bought out ABC and thought Poco would sell more records than Young-Cotton Band so they kept the name for Rusty and Paul’s planned first album. And, waddaya know, it started selling! This song was the key to Poco’s brief trek outside of the “cult” and “influence” over 52 years. It became a top 15 hit.
A longtime favorite of mine, this deceptively simple song packs a punch in explaining how someone feels in a “complicated” relationship.
Long live Poco!

A deserved choice for any song with the word "love" in its title... And since love and heart go together I would put "Heart of the Night" right along side that classic!
