Mistake at self-checkout

I went to Whole Foods Market yesterday and decided to do the self-checkout again. As soon as I got to the register a lady that monitored the self-checkout registers came up to me and offered to help me. I didn't need her help but said okay. She took my first item that I had placed on the scanner (sweet potatoes) and rung them up for me. Once the item appeared on screen I noticed right away that she made a mistake. I had regular sweet potatoes (89 cents per pound) but she had rung them up as organic ($1.99 per pound). That's a big difference in price. I let her know about the mix-up. At first the lady told me these are organic but then she looked at the sticker on the potatoes and noticed that the item code was different from the one she had entered. She apologized for the mistake, took off that item, put in the correct item code to make the correction, and left me to continue the checkout myself... I had no issues after that. Good thing these sweet potatoes had the item code sticker on it. The Japanese yams I had gotten didn't have that but I knew what price they are supposed to be.

I think many of their "mistakes" go to a lot of customers. I'm glad you noticed on time.

Everyone has to keep an eye out and always check their receipts before leaving the store.

Glad you were able to get that adjusted. I love the Japanese yams at wholefoods. I used to be a frequent shopper of Whole Foods but now I live further I don’t visit as often. Mine doesn’t have self check out yet.

@lovebuglena it’s about a 40 min drive for me. But I do love their quality foods :)

It is not close me. Takes a long time to get there especially by transportation. I go there though because I get fresh coffee beans there and yams/sweet potatoes and a few other things that I only find there.

I know the price difference of regular and organic can be quite significant . . . and with stuff that weighs a lot, we seriously have to watch how things get rung up !

@lovebuglena For us, it's the price that matters - so that part better be right. With groceries going up all the time, I seriously don't want to pay any more than I have to!

Whenever I get sweet potatoes/yams at Whole Foods they don't always ring it up as the correct item. Like they will ring it up as one type of yam, for example, but it is a different yam I got, but I know they are all $1.99/lb so I don't say anything. But this time I saw they had some sweet potatoes that were not organic and for less so decided to get that. I don't really care if they are organic or not. I'd rather spend less money than pay more for organic, which is not necessarily better quality.

I try to use self-checkout wherever I can, as I find it much easier, convenient, and quicker. It seems I have more knowledge on how to use a cash register than the store cashiers do, so I never have any issues keying in the correct codes.

@lovebuglena I always look up the name of the fruit or vegetable so I can make sure I get the right code.

Not all fruits and veggies necessarily have the code stickers on them. If that's the case then you gotta search for that item and hopefully what you select is the right one.

You really need to keep an eye on the checkout people whether it's self checkout or not.

Yes. I wonder why she decided to help me. Maybe I looked like I needed help, which I didn't.

I always try to pay attention as things are being rung up. But since I don't put on my glasses I may not always catch stuff that is wrong as I may not see the text on the screen well. So, I always check the receipt when I have finished paying for my stuff before leaving the store in case I missed anything.

Exactly. I kinda wished at that moment I hadn't let her help me. Good thing she left after that one item.

Yeah it is. Glad I caught it before and not after I already checked out.
