A Hindu sunset ceremony at Lake Phewa, Pokhara, Nepal

While in Pokhara, Nepal, we attended a Hindu ceremony on the edge of Lake Phewa. It was held at sunset and three young priests performed a series of ritualistic dance-type movements involving fire, water, incense and various other items. They stood on small platforms in front of an open space but with chairs on three sides. We found it really interesting. At the end, some of the Hindus in the crowd got up and danced along with the priests. Later, while we were having dinner, a small parade passed in front of us. I have no idea what it was all about. It might have been Buddhist or Hindu but it was interesting to watch.

It went on for about an hour. No wonder they chose young priests to do it.

@JudyEv That's good they did. An older person couldn't do that for an hour.

@just4him They swung the various items round in circles and from side to side and I was thinking of Vince and his bad shoulder.

Lake Phewa is a beautiful lake. They have a lot of canoes on it which you can hire with or without someone to row it.

It is nice to witness this kinds of rituals being done there. It is kind of strange for us foreigners but I think for the people there it is a different spiritual experience they have.

@JudyEv I have the feeling they are more pious than many in Western countries.

@LadyDuck I think so too. Many Westerners pay what I would call 'lip service' to their religion or are 'Sunday Christians'. Anything goes through the week but they put on a different persona on Sundays.
