Just found out my headaches are Migraines

I saw the Family Nurse Practitioner today at the Neurologist's office about the headaches I've had for the past nine months.
She did a thorough exam and history and said I have Migraines. I've had auras (bright flashes of light) over the years without the following headache, except for one time when I had a horribly painful Migraine after the aura.
But these headaches aren't typical. I have pain behind my eyes that has gradually gotten worse so that my head and eyes hurt all day.
The FNP prescribed two medicines for Migraines, so I'm praying these will help. It's good to finally have a diagnosis and it's not life threatening. Migraines tend to run in families and my father had them, as did my daughter and grandson.
So, that's the good news....thank you for all your concern and prayers. God is merciful!

I have had migraines since I was eight years old. I have literally tried over 100 medications solely for migraines. Over the years certain things have helped, but 8 months ago I found something that worked the best anything has ever worked: Botox for migraines. Botox for migraines isn't like regular Botox; it does nothing for aging or wrinkles (some people on mylot don't seem to understand that as I have been called vain). It's 15 injections in the shoulders, neck, back of head, sides of head, forehead, and then right between the eyes. It has changed my world; I don't even have sinus headaches anymore! My neurologist actually wrote a book about migraines. I go every 3 months, and my insurance pays for it.
Obviously, you should do what your doctor recommends. But if things don't get better for you I highly recommend it. And if my less than great insurance covers it, most insurances will.
I have a passion for helping people with health problems I too have. I just want people to know there is help. I've been in ERs because my migraines lasted four or five days, and I feel for people who suffer too. Botox isn't exactly fun or easy, but it effective, and that is what I needed.
If you are into all natural options there is this thing called 8 Greens that helped me. Sometimes my migraines would suddenly appear, but others would be auras. For the ones that started out slow I would take an 8 Greens or two, and it would go away without getting throw up worthy. It didn't work for ones I woke up with, but if they started out slow 8 Greens helped. It was a random find as I ordered it because I heard good things about the health benefits. Long story short: I discovered it helped my migraines.
Sorry this is so long!

I really appreciate your comments! My daughter gets the botox for her migraines, too. I guess that may be an option for me if the meds don't work. I could stand the pain for one day if it made me pain free for three months. I'll look into the 8 Greens, thanks.

That's kind of you, Amber, to share this information. I can't believe someone called you vain. Why don't they just move on rather than passing judgement. It's very hurtful when people do this.

I have had migraines since I was 5 years old so I understand how debilitating they can be. I get an aura about a half hour before the actual migraine starts so I can take medication. I am so glad you got a diagnosis and it is something that can be dealt with.

@1creekgirl In my case I take 4 ibuprofen at the first sign of the aura and it usually stops the headache in its tracks I recently tried a CBD cream and it did work as well, I rubbed it into my temples.

I'm sorry to hear you have migraines. I guess since I've had auras for years, even usually without the headache, it shouldn't surprise me that these headaches are migraines. Have you found good meds that help?

No, but I'm supposed to keep a log of the attacks, length they last, etc. But I don't have attacks, my head hurts all the time unless I'm asleep. But I hope the new med will help.

That's good and bad news Vicki. The good news it's migraines and not something more serious but the bad news....migraines are painful. Hope the meds work.
My mom suffered from migraines all her life and some were debilitating.
