Many years ago, Vin became godfather to our friends’ daughter. I became godmother to the other daughter. While we see the latter from time to time, Vince’s ward has always stayed very much in touch with us. She is now married with three children and, while they were living in South Australia, we visited them several times. They have now relocated back to Western Australia and are coming to see us on Saturday. We’re looking forward to it.
In the collage, top left, are the first two of the three kids having a ride in Hercules’ cart. The next three were all taken when we visited them in South Australia. The youngest loved her Halloween eyeball. My favourite memory of the littlest is of her hiding behind the curtain in our lounge but with her feet poking out at the bottom. We’re looking forward to their visit. Oh, and they’re bringing their two puppies with them so what could be nicer? But I think we might have afternoon tea on the verandah.

@judyev ‘Tea on the veranda’, how delightful. We used to have afternoon tea on the veranda every day at three o’clock precisely. A little bell was rung to intimate that the tea was being served, and we gathered for a highly ritualised event. The tea was usually accompanied by German biscuits or shah biscuits or scava biscuits and I was always intrigued by the silver tea strainer. Servants brought the tea, we partook, then servants cleared it away and we took up again where we had left off doing something useless. This is what becomes of a child of the colonies.

It's nice to have godchildren who never forgets to get in touch with you. I have several of those who send me Christmas gifts and always greet me on occasions.

@JudyEv yes, a nice feeling to be greeted even with no occasion. Ironically, my nephews and nieces don't do that.

This will bring a lot of enjoyment, having the girl's family and puppies visiting your home:) I dream of someday visiting Australia, but it's nowhere in my near future.

We haven't seen them for about two years although we've had a trailer load of their belongings stored in our shed for about 5 or 6 years. The husband helped us erect a lean-to on our shed. We stored the tractor under that and their trailer in the shed itself.

@kobesbuddy They came and got it while we were in Nepal so we now have a bit more room in our shed.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time when they visit! And who wouldn't love the puppies that are tagging along? They're a bonus!

It seems that there is a lot of excitement and bonding in store.
These children look so much of fun. And I really liked the eyeball
Will you help me understand a bit about Godfather?? I think it's a religious thing and church is involved in it. Would like to know more about it.

@JudyEv Thanks for this detailed explanation. I heard the term many times but was not very sure of what it actually meant.

I sometimes tell Vince I've seen better legs on tables but of course I'm talking about his.
