Hi My Lot, So, as you know it seems like life just keeps happening around here and there is always something going on. Not a complaint , just is what it is. In the meantime poor kitty had been loosing weight, loosing weight. At first I didn't notice it much because she was a large cat, 20 lbs. or so. And then, when I did notice, I didn't think much of it, because I thought it was probably alright she loose a little weight anyway. Then she started getting pretty thin, so I switched cat food to ones with more calories. But it didn't seem to help. Finally - a few days ago I noticed that poor kitty seemed weak and listless and was skin and bones. And... I admit, I thought the worst. With cats we've had in the past unexplained, rapid weight loss is usually not great. Well, we - meaning mom and I - took her to the vet yesterday and I was really prepared to hear the worst. I didn't expect to bring her back home, that's how bad I thought it was. I thought they'd have us put her down. I'd like to stop right here - and say how thankful I'm because my dad is still out of the house. This whole process would have been a million times harder with him. Well, we are still waiting on the result of lab work, but as it turns out - seems kitty has some bad teeth, and the drastic weight loss is because of teeth. Thank goodness something fixable. For now she has some pain medicine that makes her loopy and she has been eating constantly the high calorie food the vet gave us, which makes me happy. Photo: Mine of Kiki

That's awesome! I am so relieved to hear that is the problem. I just took Sadie to get her teeth cleaned, and they called me an hour ago to tell me she's done, and has no dental issues. I had never taken my dog to get her teeth professionally cleaned until this year.

Thanks! :-) So happy it's something easy like this - fixable. Ooo, tell me about Sadie? I don't think I've read about her before. I'm happy she didn't have any dental issues

@FayeHazel I adopted her the day before Thanksgiving. She's 7 or 8, and a Chihuahua with white and blonde fur. She thinks she's the boss, and she might be. Her previous living situation included two bull mastiffs who she apparently had total control of. Every time we are outside and Annabelle pees, she has to go pee right on top of it.

Oh, my! Kitties need their little teeth cleaned to prevent gingivitis. So glad the vet found the cause of her problem and she is eating again.

@FayeHazel Poor Doodles couldn’t have his teeth cleaned due to his heart condition. When we had the vet check his teeth for gingivitis, because he wasn’t acting right or eating, she noticed his pale pink mouth. That alerted her to the fact that he had cancer.

@DianneN I had no idea teeth cleaning is difficult for those with heart conditions. I'm so sorry, still, about the loss of Doodles … even though I didn't meet him I felt like I knew him. But... at least you got an answer about his condition, even if it's the answer that no one want. You can feel good that at least - you did everything possible for him.

It's good to know what the problem is. I hope the solution isn't too expensive.

Thanks! Now we're just waiting on the vet to give us an appointment time for dental work. So far she likes the pain meds she has and is eating after she has her medicine :-) Did bf's cat turn out alright?

@kobesbuddy Tomorrow they'll take out 3 bad teeth. Ugh. Poor cat. No wonder she didn't want to eat

It's wonderful :-) Now we wait patiently for the vet to get back to us with an appointment time. In the meantime she has pain meds - and after she has the med she feels like eating :-)

Good thing you took her to the vet. What will they do for her teeth? Pull them?

The poor kitty, didn't know that a toothache could affect even cats. Did the vet do something to fix that tooth? (I am clueless about this sort of things.)

I was surprised too. Happy it wasn't something worse. Right now we're waiting for an appointment time - the vet will pull the bad teeth. For now kitty has some pain medicine - and some high calorie food that will help her gain back some weight
