It's funny that I get to be "bad ass" as a middle aged man

When I was a teenager, two of the most "bad ass" songs that I liked were "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix (though he didn't write it) and Crossroads by Cream (actually written by blues legend Robert Johnson).
In my dreams, I would be "cool" enough to sing those songs, but it was just a fantasy.
But now, in the rock band I'm in (composed of guys in their 60s and 70s), those are two of the songs I sing. I also sing the lead on "Franklin's Tower," one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs.
I suppose the lesson to be learned is that there's nothing we can't do if we put our minds to it.
Last night's gig went really well. Some of you know that the lead singer in this band sometimes "forgets" to pay us. He also sometimes grabs the tips and doesn't share them with the rest of the band.
I DID check last night. We made $20 in tips. Hopefully tonight's gig will go just as well.

OK, check this out. It was for a corporate event. I'm singing lead. But the lead dude got so involved with flirting with a 2-year-old fan that he didn't get back to the microphone in time to sing harmonies. And then the rhythm got slightly screwed up.

I like "Crossroads" (and Robert Johnson, not so much Cream), but I hate "Hey Joe"--it's very misogynistic.

@TheHorse I love solo Clapton, but for me, Cream just had kind of a heavy, plodding sound, like maybe it was overproduced. I need my music to be either more spare or more nimble, or both. Robert Johnson (and delta blues in general) just has that spare, desolate sound that lets you really feel the music.

It is strange that there is no unity in the band. I would refuse to sing with somebody who is not sharing with the fellow musicians.
