And it still isn't for the most part.
In 1971 or '72 two groups of students, one at Stanford, and the other at MIT engaged in a deal done on the ARPANET which wasn't actually a transaction of money. They merely agreed to the deal and a meeting place, money was exchanged in hand.
In the 80's, a woman in Britain bought groceries from a local grocer online...

@snowy22315 It could have been, but I really started getting into books in my thirties. I read from the library in my early 20's. I know I used to go to the salvation army with my ex husband to find books, that was in my early 20's.

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network was the first wide-area packet-switching network with distributed control and the first network to implement the TCP/IP protocol suite. Both technologies became the technical foundation of the Internet
That's from wikipedia, I didn't know what it was either.

@LadyDuck Oh wow. So one must really know how to trade before justifying the use of the system.

The only thing you could do was trade on the stock exchange at that time? Was it like a closed exchange system?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, with that system it was only possible to trade on the stock exchange and it was not even free, it was pretty expensive.

The last time I bought shoes off of amazon they were crap.
I can't even rightly remember what mine was, but I think it was either a CD or a book.

I'm pretty sure mine was from one of those CD subscription clubs. Though it technically wasn't my first purchase.

Haha, ah well it is the first day of the month, isn't it? That would be quite a catchy title for a new purchase. I do plan to order something soon, but it won't be for a few days yet.
