National Banana Cream Pie Day International Rescue Cat Day 1901 - United States Steel Corporation is founded from the merger of Carnegie Steel Company and Federal Steel Company and becomes the first corporation in the world with assets over $1 billion. 1917 - The Jones-Shafroth Act gives Puerto Ricans United States citizenship. 1904 - Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) was born. He was an American children's author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, screenwriter and filmmaker. He wrote and illustrated more than 60 books and sold over 600 million copies. His books have been translated into more than 20 languages. Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham are two of his books. His birthday has been adapted as National Read Across America Day. While attending school at Dartmouth, he was caught drinking with nine other students. Because of Prohibition, he was forced to resign from all school activities. To keep writing for the Jack-O-Lantern Magazine, he signed his work "Seuss", thus sidestepping the eyes of the administration. He passed away in 1991. 1962 - Jon Bon Jovi was born. He is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, philanthropist and actor and founder and leader of Bon Jovi. The Bon Jovi band has sold more than 130 million albums worldwide.
