The Pig That Blew The Place To Kingdom Come

This is a TRUE story.
A farmer in North Yorkshire was trying to show the government that he had free range pigs to get a tax break. He put pedometers on all of his pigs to show how freely his pigs are roaming.
One of the pedometers on one of the pigs fell off.
The pig in question ATE the pedometer.
As all things eaten go, the pedometer was excreted as per the norm. BUT, being that pig manure, as does all manure, has a lot of methane in it, and things in manure also break things down...
The pedometer was decomposing in the pig pile.
There is a battery in the pedometer decomposing in the pig pile.
The methane and the battery do not make a good combination. And as a result the pedometer in the pig pile EXPLODED.
The explosion caused the farmer's field to catch fire. And subsequently, that fire burned down his farm.
You can't make this stuff up.

I kept trying to think what was the strangest part of this story. Pigs with pedometers on? Or was it a pig EATING a pedometer? Or perhaps a pedometer in a pile of poop exploding? Or that a farm was annihilated due to a pedometer wearing pig who blew the place up after eating it?

@amitkokiladitya Yep. It really is true.
Seventy-five square metres of farm near Leeds set alight after copper in pedometer battery reacted with dung and dry hay

That is crazy! I imagine most everyone has a true family story that would have to be published under "fiction."

@1creekgirl More than we know. Which reminds me, there was another funny story, this one out of Wisconsin, I think would be fun to share.

No, it would be difficult to make it up but only too easy to 'embroider' the truth.
1) The manure pile did NOT explode - it caught fire.
2) Neither the whole field nor the farm burnt down - it was just a small fire and no humans or pigs were injured.
Please check your facts!

I wasn't going for total facts here. Just having fun embellishing the story just a WEE bit for shock factor and a few more pennies,

If nothing else, it MIGHT serve as a FINE example of how you can make a story seem worse than it is. Like the Coronavirus for example.
I have a funny way, sometimes, of putting people's minds back to work in a creative way.

Just something that illustrates truth is stranger than fiction.
