Definitely another story that falls into the category of "you can't make this stuff up." But it is a true story. This one happened in Wisconsin.
So, a former fire fighter and his friend were drinking. They of course got drunk. The former firefighter told his friend that there were gold nuggets hidden in his uncle's house from a tractor he had sold some years back.
His uncle had died.
So, drunk, he and his friend went to his uncle's house to look for the gold nuggets. With them they brought a soda bottle filled with diesel fuel.
They did not find the gold nuggets. And so they decided to burn the place down. The two men, drunk, started the house on fire.
THEN, the former fire fighter called 911 and reported it. He RUSHED to the former fire department he worked at, stole another firefighters gear, jumped into the fire truck, and rushed off to the call from the fire HE started.
The rest of the fire department of course went to the scene as well where they observed the former fighter trying to douse the flames—and observed him fall no less than eight times.
I would LOVE to be on jury duty when this guy shows up to court!

I wonder what his defence will be. Yes that would be an interesting case to witness.

OMG, that is hysterical, what losers. I actually have true fire fighter story to tell. We had bought a beautiful home at one end of the state but after a few years had to return to our home town. Our neighbors wanted to know if they could have whatever we left behind, we said sure. Of course we meant things like a few excess toys and furniture which were put out in the shed.
Lo and behold the neighbor along with her current boyfriend, a firefighter, decided to break into the home and take everything, The took the garden tub, the mantel, the chandelier, the appliances, you name it. THEN the firefighter boyfriend tried to set the house on fire to cover the crime.
The house being well built didn't burn so easily and other neighbors high up the mountain called firefighters and the idiot was caught with the goods.
Some people are just so dumb it defies logic.
