Car dealerships are not required to close...

Apparently car dealerships are not required to close, so the dealership where hubby works will remain open with no plans of temporarily closing. That is crazy! Shouldn't employee safety be more important than making money right now? Customers that are coming in to the dealership can very well be infected, not knowing they have it, and pass it on to salespeople, managers, and other workers. I wish hubby didn't have to go into work but he has no choice... Schedules remain the same as on regular days. I wonder if people can get fired if they decide they will not come into work until this whole corona virus thing blows over...

Those types of business are supposed to be closed in our place. LIfe is definitely more important than money.

I agree. Who'd want to shop for a car in these current conditions?

@lovebuglena In our place mass transportation has been suspended. Those who have cars can move around. Those who doesnt have to walk.

We shut down all our programs and facilities yesterday, but yet I am still required to report to work every day. There was nothing to do at work today, so all we did was sit around and talk about the virus and tell jokes and laugh at the fact that we weren't maintaining the proper distance from each other like we were supposed to. But I guess it won't be a laughing matter if one or more of us get sick as a result. They should have just let us all go home. There's nothing for us to do for the next two weeks.

@lovebuglena Even if they close us down, they already said they would continue paying us, so why not just send us home? I'm not really worried though, because after tomorrow I start my vacation.

@moffittjc Like an official vacation? Or corona virus vacation?

@lovebuglena Yeah, I already had a vacation planned way before this virus broke out, so it’s a regular vacation, not a coronavirus vacation

I rather doubt anyone is shopping for cars at the moment.

I would think so as well. Right now is not the time to shop for cars.

They are most likely going to have many less customers; but they aren't able to work from home; so they figure they might as well stay open.

I will only say this. I have no idea who might be buying a car right now. BUT, I would also say anyone who is allowed to go to work should be happy right now to get that paycheck. There are a lot of people in other sectors of the economy who are losing out big time on their livelihoods. We also have to think about the underlying economy and economic impact overall. The more business we can keep going the better off everyone will be for it in the end.

Thankfully, dealerships in NYC were required to close as they are not deemed essential. Hubby told me though that they had a nurse come in and buy a car in case transportation were to shut down so she had a way to get to work.

@lovebuglena There's that, and I have at least the service departments might be considered essential. It's a gray area for sure.

Our labor agency announced that workers can keep their jobs even if they cannot report to work due to the crisis.

That is great! People shouldn't be fired because they want to take precautions and stay at home.
