A gorgeous mixed metaphor

Just heard on the BBC Radio 4 News. Somebody who was self-employed was complaining about being overlooked by the Government in terms of support during the Coronavirus outbreak. As she put it: "We keep getting thrown under the bus and kicked into the long grass". This suggests an interesting set of circumstances. Presumably the mangled corpses are not being given their due respect when recovered from under the bus, although that might be a way of saving on funeral expenses. On the other hand, they might prefer the kicking to happen first, seeing that buses rarely drive into patches of long grass thus making it less likely for the throwing to occur. What do you think?

I agree - a very interesting set of circumstances.

Maybe it's a bizarre punishment to try and rid the world of the self-employed. I'd best warn my self-employed daughter to avoid any locations where there are buses and long grass!!
