Quarantine pass needed to enter supermarket

Just today, we were informed by the village officer that quarantine pass will be issued, only one per household. It is for the use of going out the village and also in buying from the supermarkets. No quarantine pass, no grocery. Seniors are now banned in supermarkets. So how can a senior couple buy food when there is no younger person living with them?

That is a question really. My inlaws are both seniors too in Makati and just the two of them there. but here, the mayor said if there is no one but the senior, they can go provided the social distancing and the protection.

We actually went to SM hypermart at 5 pm. The seniors were allowed and doesn't need to fall in line to the entrance. In the cashier there's also a privilege line. Nice one.

@jrlcentral we were allowed to enter as a senior but it is required for everyone to wear a face mask. We had to go home to get our face mask then came back again.

If it would be a trouble for them, they can ask for assistance from the barangay.

Hi Alex, nice to see you here... With our first case confirmed yesterday, the same rule is implemented here. For senior citizens with no company of a young person, I believe you can approach your barangay official for assistance. Maybe they can buy the supplies for you. Senior citizens are most vulnerable to the covid-19, that's why the protocol restricts the seniors from going out. Keep safe.

Thank you so much for the explanation. We got our quarantine pass before the barangay office closed.

@jrlcentral there is a wet market by the village gate where we can buy fresh food ingredients. But the supermarkets have their own rules.

@Alexandoy Glad to know that. I still don't have a Quarantine pass. But there are meat vendors just nearby. So I guess I don't need to get out of our barangay for food...

Still better here, only restrictions are made on basic needs. But unfortunately those who come to supermarkets from various countries and enter directly without quarantine.

You mean anyone can enter the supermarket? That is an invitation for the virus.

Here, seniors can ask the authorities to do the shopping for them.

If that can happen here then that is good. But I'd still say that it impossible to happen.

@Alexandoy If they are banned, there should be offered a solution.

@rappeter13 this is the problem with our government. They will impose a regulation while still thinking of the details. When there are complaints then that is the time to think of a remedy.

That is my question if both the couple are seniors. I don't think anyone in the community can assist them.

@garymarsh6 that I don't know yet. Tomorrow the village officers would be distributing the quarantine passes. I will ask them.

@Alexandoy but if they are issued with a permit then they should be able to designate someone to do it on their behalf? Well I would have hoped so?

Wow, that is certainly a question that needs to be addressed. Here some of the stores are having senior hours, but they are at ridiculous times like 6AM. I am not getting up while it is still dark to go to the store..sorry! Fortunately, you can go other times as well.

Here many stores only accept one person per household because they want to reduce the number of people inside the stores, but that person can be anyone including a senior. I wonder how the seniors from your place are going to get food if they can't do their own shopping.

We are also asking how the seniors could buy from the supermarket now. That regulation was imposed yesterday and I have yet to hear the explanation today.

The village officer said they will provide someone to assist the seniors. But it is impossible to do that. There are so many houses here that only seniors live.

Hopefully there will be people who will shop for the seniors. I do hope that doesn't happen here. There are a great many seniors in our small town.

Our village is full of senior couples so I'm sure there are households where only seniors live. The village officers would say they will provide assistance to the seniors. But it's not true.

@JudyEv for sure the village officers cannot provide assistance. Just distributing the quarantine pass they promised yesterday did not materialize much more in buying groceries for the seniors here?

I thought you had a maid, is she a senior too? Couldn't she be trusted to do the groceries? That's a tight situation to be in right now if she already left.

Yes, our maid is only 23 years old. She was the one who was given a quarantine pass and my wife as well since she is not a senior yet. Our maid is trustworthy though.
