Silver in the Gloom And Doom

Since this whole Coronavirus thing got underway, at work, we have seen a bit of a drop in sales figures, and of course we have had several meetings about the state of the business, and what we can do to weather this circumstance and come out on the other end well enough. BUT, as for me, I managed to post a record sales month. I mean, it was the BEST sales month ever in the 6 years I have worked for the company. I consider myself somewhat lucky in this. While my stock portfolio has been devastated (on paper), so far my wife and I are still working and so our incomes have not been impacted. And with this being a record sales month, this will be the biggest commission check I have ever gotten to date. I am grateful. A little silver in all of this gloom and doom. I'll take it. Although, too bad I can't really spend any of it. lol

That's great you had a personal best in sales. I'm glad both you and your wife are still working.

@porwest Yes, there are. I talked to my son a couple of days ago. He's still working, but my grandson and roommate aren't.

@just4him I only hope that people start to really understand how important it is to not live paycheck to paycheck, and to make sure they have something saved away for a rainy day. Sadly, I don't think anyone will learn a thing.

Me too. So many people out there are hurting. I know I do not always seem overly compassionate when it comes to people and financial woes. But this one is a bit beyond anyone's control. I feel for anyone financially suffering through this right now.

Where do you work? Glad to know you have done so well. Don't forget to help out those less fortunate if you can! I'm doing pretty well work-wise as well. The city is paying me to work from home, but with everything being closed, there's not much to do. If things get so bad that they choose to furlough us, I'm not worried, because I have over 25 weeks of leave time built up from my 19 years of work at the city. So I can just go on an extended vacation if I need to!

@porwest Yes, I realize I have very generous benefits from working for the government. But, what taxpayers don't realize, they are getting a real bang for their buck when it comes to government employee salaries. I make half the salary in government than I can for doing the same work in the private sector. And as a government employee I cannot get bonuses and things like that. So the only way HR can make government jobs comparable to private sector jobs is to offer generous benefits.

Nice you can use up some vacation time. Don't even get me started on those outrageous government job benefits the taxpayers shell out for that do not also get them... Not mad at you. I'd take them too. lol I am in sales currently for a company that sells concrete mixer truck parts and concrete batch plant parts. It's not a bad gig. You get a base salary and also make commissions on all of the sales. So, it works out, and we are considered essential since we are technically tied to the construction trades.

@moffittjc I hear ya. But those bennies extend LONG after you stop working, which is what sort of makes up for a lot of that pay difference. But you kind of alluded to that in your final statement. Like I said, I may not like the way it works. BUT, if I was offered a government job you can bet I'd be right on that. I don't like unions either, but I won't turn down a union wage and union bennies if they are there for the taking.

You must be a super salesperson to do so well in these times. Good for you.

Not sure if I am a super salesman. I do know we reached out to many of our customers just to see how they are doing, how business is going, wished them all the best and to be safe and stay healthy...and tossed in a WEE tiny sales pitch right at the end which sometimes brought the goods to the fore.

I usually do not believe in luck. BUT, in this situation, I could have been in a very different position. I am grateful it worked out the way it did, in my favor.

Man, you know it. This is a hot commodity right now. Maybe we should let @TheHorse know about this. He might be able to get that Porsche into his driveway much faster than he thought.

Everything is coming down, even the CPM of blogging sites. My Hubpages earnings are devastated by this darn plague.

When it comes to personal economics, one must follow where the money is going. It doesn't go away. It simply shifts. Move your activities and endeavors in the direction of the money and by doing so you never are forced to participate in what everyone else is suffering. You, in fact, gain.
