Time for another great song from a great band, Creedence Clearwater Revival. As Jeff pointed out in his comment yesterday, they weren’t together very long, but in that very short period of time they released a number of classic albums and a boatload of classic songs that still get played on the radio, over 50 years later. Here’s the next song on my list, and another one “everyone” knows.
#8: Have You Ever Seen the Rain
As I’ve said, Fogerty is great at putting many meanings into his lyrics. In fact, he’s so good at it that people started looking for meanings that weren’t there. This song is a good case in point: while Fogerty used the metaphor of a sun shower for the impending implosion of the band, people were seeing all sorts of things in it, like the Vietnam war (bombs being “the rain”), the tensions in America (“there’s a calm before the storm”), and just about anything else you can imagine.
Nope. It’s just about a great band, falling apart at the seams.

Something of a mournful sounding tune.
