How can you wear a mask when you can't buy any?

After weeks of saying no now the guidance that has been issued states that people should be wearing masks while in public. That's great advice. . . . . . except you can't buy them anywhere. They are as scarce as toilet paper these days and probably more. The Surgeon General posted a video with instructions how to make your own mask. That is all well and good if you are a crafter with extra fabric laying around. Me? Nope. I don't even have the rubber bands that you would need to attach the homemade mask to your face. My dad asked me this morning if I had a bandana. I scoffed at him and said "this is New Jersey not Texas". I'm sure my mother has a bunch of them at their house and I would bet that they will be dropping some off tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make your own mask, based on guidance from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. They're reusable and washable, and they should be worn while you continue to

I'm in the process of making a face mask. I even saw a video of a girl who made a mask out of a Pamper. Just cut a hole in the middle, put it over your head, and use the tape bands to attach it. If you know anyone with a baby, there you go! But the bandana ones would be much cuter.

Many people are making their own masks, I'd never be able to. Jay drove 65 miles this morning, to buy groceries and face masks. He was told, these masks are no longer available, they're all being sent to the hospitals.

I had a few bandanas left from where I used to work at chicken plant. That is what I am using, I had to tie it around my face, couldn't find any rubber bands.

There were some very creative "masks" on Facebook today. Everything from plastic pop bottles to trash bag clothing.

I am kind of right there with you on this one. We have a very short supply of these things. My wife made a couple with some bandanas and rubber bands. She actually did a pretty good job on them. Maybe I could sell some and make some money? But of course I would think of that. lol

My wife made a couple for us from an online pattern. She is a bit more craft-oriented than I am. I am glad for it. I think you can still buy rubber bands at the store, there hasn't been a run on those yet.
