The day I won bingo - big time

I have written a number of posts about our cruise on the Queen Mary 2. But I haven't told you the best part. This stupendous event happened on the second last day.
One of the daily diversions offered was bingo. We have rarely played bingo but we decided we'd join in. The place was not quite packed but obviously many people played it every day. They had different coloured pens and sheets of score-cards. The least you could buy was enough for nine games – three sheets of three. This is what we chose. Others played perhaps three or four games for each round.
The scoring was all computerised. Each game was a little different. You might have to get two horizontal rows or an H-shape. The last game was always the whole card. The money had been jackpotting each day.
The day before we berthed at Brisbane, it was announced that the jackpot would be played out that day. And guess who won the jackpot? I did! And it was enough to pay for my cruise so we were pretty excited. They paid us the money in cash – US dollars. It was a great end to a wonderful cruise.
I've cut off my head as I didn’t like my hair.

@JudyEv that's pretty amazing. I could mostly pay off my credit card with that kinda money, we've had so many house and car issues in the last year and Ive had 2 dental surgeries

@Jessicalynnt 2 dental surgeries? That doesn't sound good - and it does sound expensive.

That is great Judy! Congrats on winning the jackpot! Is there a reason they paid out in American dollars instead of Australian dollars? Where did all the American money come from? Wouldn't everyone on the ship be spending their Australian dollars?
I don't normally gamble, but on my honeymoon cruise one day I decided to go down to the casino area of the ship and spend $5 playing the slot machines. On the very first machine I put my money into, I won $400! I decided to be smart and walk away right then and there with my winnings. It wasn't quite enough to pay off my cruise cost, but it did pay the drink tab of my bride and I.

It's good you were able to pay your drink tab. We had a card which opened the cabin door and also acted as a credit card. Everything you bought went on that. There was no cash anywhere. However, the win was paid in cash. At the end of the trip everyone had to pay their drinks bill, etc, and we were able to pay ours with American dollars which meant we didn't lose anything through conversion.

@JudyEv Definitely a big win for you in getting all that money! When you disembarked from the ship, you still had to convert the rest of the American dollars to Australian dollars, correct?

@moffittjc Yes, that's true. Glad it was then and not now. Our Aussie dollar is barely making 60US cents.

That is great news. The most notable thing I won at Bingo were a set up mugs that werent any good. They were poorly insulated.
