A beautiful day!

Today it has been a beautiful day here in the uk with temperatures around 18C which has been the first warmest day this year. We have had quite a leisurely day this morning I have been in the garden and mowed the lawn. For lunch I had some fruit two satsumas and a banana and this evening we have had roast lamb. At 8PM The Queen addressed the Nation. She has only ever addressed the nation four times in her whole reign apart from her annual Christmas day message. This is quite an unprecedented event but she started by thanking all front line staff helping with the pandemic. She acknowledged that people will lose loved ones but she said that this is a worldwide problem and we must follow the advice of staying home and staying safe. She reminded us that we will get through this and there will be a time when life returns to normal. The photo is of one of my daughters windows. When schools closed abruptly a few weeks ago the children were asked to put paintings, drawings or photos in their windows to bring joy to others and as a means of connecting with other children stuck at home due to social distancing. The grand children made the rainbow with coloured tissue paper and put a bear underneath the rainbow. I think they did a pretty good job!

Won't you lose your British citizenship if you give the temperature in Celsius? :-)

Hahaha I knew you were going to make a remark I purposefully did not put the temperature in Fahrenheit. I would have thought you would have been proud of Fahrenheit with his German connections! We use Celsius on our daily weather reports!

@garymarsh6 I must confess that I've never thought of the German connections of the term Fahrenheit. The only feeling I have when I read it is anger because the people who use it think that the whole world does the same although they are in the minority. A typical case of parochialism. Besides the USA there are only tiny and unimportant countries in the list. (WIKIPEDIA) "Today, countries that use the Fahrenheit include the Bahamas, Palau, Belize, the Cayman Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and the United States and its territories such as Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam."

@MALUSE I can convert it back only because we used Fahrenheit in my early years and I think initially on joining the EU but later we started using Celsius . When I took my daughter to the USA she did not understand F so I would have to convert it for her! I still prefer feet and inches metres really do not mean anything to me. I guess once my generation die so will fahrenheit unless once we have left at the end of the year they decide to change things back! Who knows!

They had a clip of her talk on our news, she sounded very sincere, perhaps she is missing her own grandson and his family and that is why her voice was so full of feeling.

More exasperated being locked up at Windsor castle for two weeks with Prince Philip more likely! NO seriously it was a very short clip not long at all. Hopefully it will help people do what they are supposed to do but the morons who have ignored the advice probably would not have watched her anyway! I think it was to try to boost peoples morale more than anything!

@garymarsh6 This evening on the news they are asking people to self isolate for 3 weeks after being away. There was 1 in 5 who tested positive and did not show any symptoms during the first 2 weeks. A co-worker of mine, who works as a teller in a branch in our city, lost her husband yesterday to covid. He leaves behind 3 little girls, so sad.

@Juliaacv Oh no I am so so sorry. The poor kids. Heartbreaking and yet morons out there thinking it is some kind of holiday and going out doing whatever the please! I read an account from a nurse who was asked to help out in the mortuary because they were inundated she said she had to help move 40 bodies to two cold storage units as the mortuary is too full. She was heartbroken!

Well it did keep them occupied for an hour or so doing it so that was a bit of a bonus. They are both proud of it!

Hahaha I doubt it. We usually get whatever you have had in the USA it whips across the Atlantic dumping most of the rain on Ireland before it hits us! I am sure that you are in much need of rain probably more so than us!

love the picture! In times of trouble, leaders step in and calm people down. Glad to hear the Queen did so!
