Planning a Drive-By Party for Little Miss

Little Miss will be turning 5 on April 15th. My original plans for a party have been halted. They guests included her school friends, our family and friends too.
Needless to say, Little Miss is saddened by the knowledge that there will only be the 3 of us having cake and ice cream.
I have seen a lot of ideas as to how to have a celebration while keeping our social distance. So, we are holding a drive-by party on her birthday. I have asked some of my relatives and close friends to drive by our home at 6:00 to wish Little Miss a happy birthday. Told them that gifts are not required. I just want to give this little one a good memory of her 5th birthday. Those that cannot attend are encouraged to do a videochat with her. She loves doing videochat.
Even though this is a difficult time for us all. We need to remember the impact it is having on the children. Trying to keep them busy, happy, and healthy is most important.
Hopefully this party will be a success and she will look back on this as maybe not being such a bad birthday afterall.

I think it will mean a lot to her to see all those cars driving by just for her! It is probably something she will always remember, since it is a very unique way to celebrate a birthday!

I am trying go get a few more people on board for it. A few just don't want to come out after having to work all day. I can understand that. Stressful enough having to go out and work when you know it is better to stay home and can't.

@ElusiveButterfly I hope enough people come out to make it exciting for her! Have you posted on Facebook?

@moffittjc No, I haven't gone that far. I don't want to overwhelm her with a bunch of strangers either. I would rather not have that. I have been personally asking those that know her to drive by.

My SIL came by last weekend and dropped of a small package for her. She stayed in her car, over 6 feet away. Little Miss was delighted to see her. I know that seeing her family members on her birthday will give her a tickle.

@ElusiveButterfly I’m sure she will love her birthday party. It certainly will be different, but fun.

@DianneN I just sent an invite to her teacher. Doubt she will drive over an hour for this though. But, I am hoping she will at least send a video for her.

My sister did a zoom virtual party for her daughter last week for her birthday. We all got to sing happy birthday to her while she blew out her candles it was cool. I keep seeing people doing drive by parties also too that's another good idea. I hope she has a good birthday no matter the circumstances. I can't wait until this is all said and done and everyone can get back to normal.

I hope that it ends soon too. Have to stop watching news reports that keep my anxiety level right up there. Not healthy for us.

@Blondie2222 I watched our governor's press conference a couple of days ago. He seems to think that this will peak this month in our state. I still don't believe that one. Too many people are travelling in and out of state and out of state people are coming back to their summer homes.

@sol_cee just got a message from my kiddos preschool teacher saying that her WiFi was knocked out so there will be no daily video from her.

Honestly, she may not even remember it when she's older. But if she does, I'm sure she'll just be grateful for your hard work of trying to make it great in a hard time.

She really has a remarkable memory. Thankfully, the bad stuff is something that she doesn't remember.

Those that can't be here can at least talk to her and give her a smile.

I hope that we can get a good line of cars filled with faces that she recognizes. Most of all I hope her mother comes too.

@Jessicalynnt there are a couple of people that would probably take part. There is a man that walks daily through the neighborhood. Little Miss called him the walking man. Finally got to ask him his real name. Now he is known as Larry the Walking Man. LOL.

@ElusiveButterfly if you have a way of throwing that out to the community or neighbors, might try that too, people need things to do and might be willing to take a drive with some signs about then

That sounds like a good idea and I'm sure Little Miss will be happy with a drive-by birthday party. A birthday is important to a 5 year old.

She really was looking forward to having a big party. Two of her friends had big parties that she attended and she loved it.

She still really doesn't fully understand, even though we can blame much on the coronavirus.
