If the weather permits...

Today my friends and I will be getting on facebook messenger and hanging out. We'll do a video call while watching Coffee and Kareem That is if the weather permits. It apparently stormed last night, but I slept through it. Today we are to expect more storms, though I am not sure of their severity. We have decided to start the movie watching around 2:30. We may watch another movie, but we will surely try to watch one. Have you videochatted with friends and / or loved ones?

That's a good plan. And we have been relying a lot on video chatting to loved ones in this lockdown period.

Yes. It helps a lot to see their faces and be able to feel as if they aren't so far away.

The only person I talk to on the phone is my aunt. Everyone else I use instant messaging for. I prefer it as i do not like to speak on the phone for very long. Even with my aunt, I try to get off the phone as soon as possible.

@LadyDuck It's nice to catch up with people. I call my aunt to find out how my cousin is doing and how her mother in law is doing. They've both been in the hospital.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I never stay more than 5 minutes on the phone, but I love a lot to talk with people I love.

So we are trying to figure out how we could do that with my mother in law. She is in a tightly secured senior home now (which means she is stuck in her room but for good reason). But she has an iphone (and is not too techy) and we have Androids. She can Facetime my sister in law, but not us. The other day we set up a Zoom meeting with my sister in law, who Facetimed my mother in law at the same time. So we were able to see my MIL through SIL's phone . .. and she could see us through the phone. Crazy but it worked.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm not sure - Hubby and his sister worked it out - and we did the Zoom thing on his work laptop. With my son's Zoom class meeting, the teacher tells us through the Remind app. And then Zoom was already installed in my son's device from school . . . he get a notification through upcoming meetings (or something like that). A tech guy at the senior home said he could help with some installing in her room. But I think they can go downstairs to the community computers (I think there are 2) but I don't know if it's a good idea for them all to share computers like that right now. MIL wouldn't be good with that anyway.

@much2say Yes, i think it's best if they stay in their rooms for the time being. Even if the computers were sanitized... We finally got facebook video chat to work. I had to install the app to use it on my phone.

I am glad that it did work. How did you get invited to the zoom call? Was it through a text message? It would be nice if the senior care facilities were able to somehow help the seniors figure out how to use such services while still keeping their distance from them.

Oh looks like a string of storms you've got there. We have this weekly meeting on Zoom so I still see them.

My family and I always have video chatting with my younger sister and brother. Since they are not with us, we just need to be connected through FB messenger.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, it is fine. We do use it in a group chat. Well, I guess it is better Skype if it is in a group.

@Shavkat It was just three of us on facebook chat, there were a few times when the connection would fail for one of us, but it only lasted a few seconds and we were back to chatting.

Does FB messenger work really well for video chatting? I've only ever tried it once and that was through my phone .Today I will use my laptop.

A few years back I skyped with my son and grandkids. It was only one time. We usually just talk on the phone.

@simone10 It was just a video game. He added me on xbox years ago when I used to play and then we got to talkng and started skyping. It was very innocent as he was just a few years older than my nephew at the time.

Yes, it appears as if we'll be doing it earlier or perhaps later, but I'm excited. Also, it seems as if the storms are out of here for now. I thought we had more coming in.
