How MyLot is helping me make an extra $4.00/day!

Between my morning coffee and my evening wine or Scotch, I tend to drink a lot of Gatorade. I usually buy two 28 oz bottles at my gas station, as you can get the 2 for $3.00 special that way. But now that I'm gainfully unemployed, I'm taking/making (which is correct?) some cost-cutting measures. For one, I'm making my own Gatorade. My Filipino buddy brought me a bunch of oranges and lemons from his back yard, so I simply combine water, the juice from one lemon or orange, and a bit of maple syrup, and...voila! I have a hydrating beverage waiting for me in the fridge. My concoction is a bit more tart and less sweet than Gatorade, but it does the job. Are you doing things to cut costs right now?

wow, that's a beautiful concoction. Does it taste better than Gatorade? I don't know if you know our local lemon or kalamansi smallsr version of limes.

I've never had them! But California has no shortage of citrus fruits growing all around.

Well, the most important ingredient, water, is free.

Yes I will do that too if I have the chance to do so. We don`t have free fruits around for now maybe when the weather starts to permanently be good. I think the apple and cherry trees will bear fruits.

Well, no haircut since it's closed. No eating out. No little treats/coffee after work. No driving 500 km a week! Fewer trips to the grocery store, so fewer treats there. No traveling to ski! or to see family. All my savings are imposed on me. I mended my socks

I'm saving money on laundry by turning my underwear inside out once a week. Can you send me some socks?

I have been buying items online quite much. However, I save more money this way and online is a blessing as I cannot to get to a grocery store. Once a week, a friend does deliver our groceries, but we have to limit our inventory from the grocery store. Any particular items that cannot be bought on inventory have to be bought online.

Due to the coronavirus, we haven't had a meal in a restaurant for over two months. We cook at home. I must say that somewhat it can save a lot

@youless Yes even a simple order for 4 in an outside restaurant could be 400 to 500 INR. This amount can instead get us rice (3kg) for almost 1.5 months or more. But sometimes one does misses a few things.

We have lemon and orange trees too . . . hey I have the ingredients to make Horse Gatorade ! I am now shopping out of the pantry and fridge. In recipes, I have found I could cut out half the meat or part of some of the other ingredients. All other non-essential shopping has ceased. We're hardly driving at all so that saves on gas. And we're not going anywhere!

@TheHorse Most everyone is in the same boat. One teacher I know said she noticed how low the gas prices were and she wanted to go fill up her tank . . . but she noticed her tank was still full .

That must taste better than Gatorade? I've just smelled the stuff, the kids in school drink a lot of different more or less weird smelling energy drinks, but just the smell puts me off. I'm not really doing it actively, but since I don't drive to work I save money on petrol. I don't have to drive to my couch. Plus the petrol is really cheap, and I can't use the cantina at work. That means I buy stuff without thinking about the cost, but it's still cheaper than the cantina. And today the sale on Easter candy starts

Heh. It tastes less sweet than Gatorade. But I suppose the key is that I'm staying hydrated. Gas is cheap here, relative to what it usually is. But California still has some of the highest "petrol" process in the Country.

I have a bunch of grapefruits right now that I got for free through my neighborhood's Buy Nothing group. I wonder if I could do the same thing with juiced grapefruits?

@TheHorse These are white grapefruit and not as sweet as I'd like, but that maple syrup would make a difference.

that homemade Gatorade doesn't sound too bad. not having to drive around has definitely helped me save money, even though gas is cheap right now.

You coul also dilute it with water, don’t use a lot though. Fortunately a few months ago I bought these koolaid powder drinks. That makes a lot of juice.

If you stopped drinking Gatorade and you switched to plain water (that is a lot better) you would even "earn" more.

I don't know that I'm really missing the potassium. I could gobble up a banana and get that. Gatorade is just touch more than flavored water. Water is the key.
