Mom gave me a huge leg of lamb

About a week ago (maybe longer) my mom gave us a leg of lamb. That thing is probably almost the size of my arm. Hubby didn't wanna cook it then so I put it in the freezer. I am getting ready to defrost it tomorrow. It will probably take at least a few days to defrost. Once it's defrosted, I am planning on coating it with different spices, rubbing olive oil on it, and then putting that thing in the oven. Not sure if I should cover it in foil or not, nor how long to cook it for and at what temp. I never made leg of lamb before. I can't cook the lamb though because I don't have a tray that will fit that leg in it. I'd have to go to different stores to try and find an aluminum tray that is large enough to fit the leg. I should probably measure it first so I know what the diameter of the tray should be. I am thinking of going to Dollar Tree first but not sure I've seen such big trays there, if they even exist. And then my next bet will be the supermarket. The tray won't be cheap, if it's even there, but no choice. My uncle said I can probably just wrap the leg in aluminum foil and put that directly onto the oven rack, and then just put a small tray beneath it just in case it drips. Maybe that's an option if I can't find a tray.

I don’t like lamb, but it sounds delicious.

I enjoy it a lot. But I think I prefer beef.

@Nevena83 I was talking about common red meat. Out of that I think beef. But I do love my chicken.

Walmart would probably have something; but you can't get there. You might luck out with Dollar Tree. Definitely measure it before you go looking.

There is no Walmart near me. There is a Target, if it's open.

Oh gosh - I wouldn't even know what to do with lamb! I've gotten some deals on some huge roasts - I cut them up into manageable pieces . . . cooked 1 piece and froze the others. Our Dollar Tree has those trays big enough for a turkey - not sure if that is big enough for an arm length lamb !

Maybe a turkey size tray may work but not sure. Probably have to measure the lamb first.

I would agree with your uncle and told you to either just create a makeshift tray out of foil, or wrap the leg of lamb in foil. Either way should work, and like you uncle said, make sure you also have something underneath as a drip tray.

We had roast leg of lamb last night. Luckily we had a pan big enough for it.

@lovebuglena I should think a turkey pan would be big enough.

I wonder if a pan fit for a turkey can work. I'd still have to search for it in stores as I don't have any though.
