Urban gardening

Our government has urged us to do urban gardening especially now that there is a shortage in food supplies. I have seen a lot of people who do this. In a small space, they are able to grow varieties of foods like tomatoes, chili, veggies, and others. I am more inclined to do vertical farming. What about you? Have you tried urban gardening? kindly share your experience.

I am very keen on learning urban gardening. Wish to start something now that I am home for a few weeks more.

@Janet357 Living in small apartments makes it difficult to manage the space for this.

We have a yard, but I have been lazy . But in the kitchen by the window, I have a basil plant growing in a pot (going on 2nd year now). And there are a few glass yogurt jars filled only with water - with green onions and baby bok choy growing in them!

I think vertical gardening is a good idea particularly in a small space. I'm beginning to think it might work for me too. We have plenty of space but the kangaroos eat any plants we try to grow. We don't have a 'house yard' as such. The house is just in one corner of 18 acres so the roos are free to come and go as they please.

@Janet357 They are wild and very timid so they disappear as soon as they see us. But they do come into our garden.

My garden ( i just posted about it and added a photo ) is an urban garden. It has the potential to grow enough to meet our needs quite well. At tbe moment I have left 95 per cent of it as grass. I do have a potato patch not in picture And some soft fruit. I quite like growing veg, but we are in a farming town and will have no shortage of fruit and veg.

I had a little garden when I was a teen, but it was just a two foot space where I grew lettuce, and tomatoes.

I think it is easy to grow lettuce but with tomatoes it needs a lot of care as the trees tends to bend a lot.

Urban gardening is the way to go! In my opinion it's just one of the many ways we can do to avert the impending food shortage.

I wish the government cared more about efforts in urban farming. Indonesian government only ever pays attention to gardening if corporations are doing events about it. And with the lockdowns, there aren't a lot of events.
