Bad news doesn't always involve COVID-19

Not such a good day today. And none of the bad news has anything to do with COVID-19. My friend has been having health problems and her husband rang today to say she has pancreatic cancer which is not good news at all. She will possibly start chemotherapy but not for another fortnight. We were still reeling a bit from this when my sister-in-law rang to say their daughter, who lives in Luxor, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As you can imagine, her mother is beyond sad and there is no way she can go to Egypt at the moment. I am so hoping the ‘things happen in threes’ doesn’t kick in.

@JudyEv My goodness. I am so sorry for the bad news. I honestly wish the very best for them! Them and their families and friends as I know it will be a rough time for them too. I really hope that is enough bad news too and not a third event will happen. *big hugs to you Judy*

Thanks very much for your good wishes. I thought our niece might have had COVID-19 as she is working in the hospital there but I think this is even worse news.

@JudyEv You're very welcome. I really mean it too. I feel sad even though I don't know them personally. In no way am I trying to compare! I think I just feel sad because I was there once and can relate. I remember hearing the news about my Uncle. That he had acute leukaemia. I was in complete denial that he wasn't going to make it. I just mean I feel hurt and sad that you and everyone involved is feeling that sort of worry / pain. I honestly wish for you all to just be fine!

@JudyEv I understand what you mean. It truly is hard and sometimes hard to accept too. You are all in my thoughts and I truly wish the absolute best and please know if ever you wish to chat, I am here. I know you already have an amazing group of friends here but I'd like to add myself to the list of people who are here for you if ever you need it. Not that I can fix anything. But you know what I mean!

The coronavirus is just complicating so many things. Many should be getting checked for various other diseases but aren't so that compromises their chances too.

That is very true. We went to the wedding in Luxor in 1998 so we have a special attachment to our niece. She is a very highly qualified nurse and has been working at home since the virus has started.

Unfortunately these sort of illnesses are very much taking a back seat at the moment. I've been saying for a while that now is not a good time to become ill with something that's not the illness du jour!! Not that there's ever a good time but you know what I mean!! Hope things go well for them.

Thanks. And I know exactly what you mean. The one in hospital in Perth is one of very few patients and doctors are apparently looking for something to do as all elective surgery has stopped. I think the authorities are thinking about letting the private hospitals start doing elective surgery They haven't had the huge number of COVID-19 patients that they thought they might and the private hospitals will soon start feeling the pinch financially. The other thing is that people aren't getting tested for things like cancer so it's feasible treatment will start later than would be optimum.
