Relief goods from the government

Let me share the picture of the relief goods given by the government people yesterday. For more than a month, so many have lost their jobs so the government is trying its best to feed the citizens. Sorry but I don't think that food bag of 2 kilos of rice can feed a family for 1 week.

I wish the government would be realistic with the food aid. Those who have no money are getting hungry.

@Moon24 same here. In the news says the people got money from the government already but when I ask friends from other cities, no one had received yet.

Venezuela will have worse times now. I just heard on the mews that many Venezuelans were going back from Colombia because they had lost their jobs there and nobody would accept them.

It is a worldwide problem now that people have lost their job. I really don't know how it can be resolved with government promises that are not fulfilled.

@Alexandoy I don´t know how things will work out in your country with the pressure of the extra people and the problem of petrol.

@marguicha the bad economic situation is worldwide so we cannot expect rich countries to help us.

I agree it cannot suffice the food needs of a family with the average number of children in a regular urban poor family. I am just glad we do not belong to those class of people and could afford to buy our own food to last for the whole week.

@rsa101 so it's only once in the province. I pity those people who do not have money to buy their daily food. I can feel them here in our neighborhood.

We still don't know if the lockdown will end or not. Let us wait for the official announcement. The financial aid called Ayuda is not seen in our barangay.

It certainly is better than going without good. Your government cares about its people. Did you receive that, too?

Yes, that in the picture is what I received yesterday. Obviously we do not need it but what's on my mind are the poor who have lost their jobs. They are now on a borrowing spree and lucky they are if there are people who would lend them money.

@Alexandoy I didn’t think you would need it. Too bad the government couldn’t figure out who needs the food more. Those who do borrow will have huge problems when they have to pay it back.

Government is doing the best that it can do. I agree with you that relief packages has lesser amount of food than needed. But Government has a big population to take care of. If some people with enough wealth also come forward then it would be great. This battle with corona is long and can be won with corporation and support of each and every human

Some rich people already donated big money to the foundation that helps in feeding the poor. The main problem I see is the "not poor" are being neglected. When you are not poor and you lost your job then you become poor.

@anamika161088 sometimes I think life is unfair because the poor have so many reasons why they are poor. We work and pay taxes only for the government to give to the poor. Why not make the poor work?

@Alexandoy I agree with you. Focus has always been on poor. I am happy that they are getting help but there are itherw as well who need some focus

This is what every family is getting ? I mean, it's something better than nothing, but yah, those ingredients can only be stretched so far. What if the people who didn't need it pooled together and gave that to the families who really need it?

Yes, that relief goods is what the families get. But I believe that some families are neglected because it is not easy to keep track of all the residents in the town.

That's 2 kilos of rice, good for 2 days for a family of 4. There's one small can of sardines that is good for one sitting and a pack of instant noodles maybe if there is a baby in the family.

When you compare the kind of relief goods being doled out to the amount of money elected officials made from corruption, this is adding insult to injustice.

Mayor Richard Gomez of Ormoc did better by giving one sack of rice for each household irregardless if political affiliation or economic status and he finished it in just 4 days. He said no listing was done because that would take eternity to finish and people are hungry. He says as long as there is rice, people can provide themselves with simple viand. People if other places are envious at how this mayor has used common sense compared to their own leaders.

Yes, I saw the news of the 1 sack of rice to the residents of Ormoc City. That is a commendable act by Mayor Goma.
