Blackbird Baby in the Smoke Tree

Was out on the deck in between rain showers, watching the baby blackbirds fly out of the nest for the first time. The nest is in the backyard cypress trees. I came inside and the Dude took off running to the front window. These cats can hear the smallest sounds. So off I went and there was a baby blackbird on the front porch looking inside the window. The Dude's tail was going back and forth really fast and he was making his birds sounds, like he does when he sees birds. So funny. I eased out the front door with my phone camera. I clicked a couple as he flew into the smoke bush. But you can barely see him. After I came inside, the Mom came and they both flew away. Very cool moment for me and the Dude. Brendel slept thought the entire thing. That was my excitement for the day.

Awww, love these sweet moments. Right now I'm listening to a slow rain drip outside my window.

There is always something going on in your yard. I wish our courtyard was as busy.

@CarolDM I can imagine. Where I am, I see tons of birds but no nests or babies.

Brendel is just being low-key and relaxed:) I love watching birds when their young first leave the nest! Dude is like Sylvester the cat:) That bird should be between two slices of homemade bread, with just a tad bit of salt and pepper!

@CarolDM Our cat could catch a bird, on the ground! I had to watch her, very closely. We allowed her to be outdoors during the daytime.

They are fast, you have to have patience and move very slowly.

Baby birds are very clumsy when they first start to fly.
