My first corn plant!

It must be Spring, even if I spend most of my days hiding inside. My first corn plant has poked through, and a couple of others have followed, along with some sunflower sprouts. I got some new potting soil for this Spring--hopefully that will help yield some healthy plants. Do you have some veggies and flowers planted? I should try cilantro this year, but my history with cilantro has been kind of inconsistent. Any suggestions?

Good luck with your plantings. I'm not into gardening; so I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions for your cilantro. I know there are a lot of members with gardening experience. Maybe one of them can help you.

@LindaOHio Heh. I had one worker at Home Depot say, "I just work here. I don't know anything."

I have one pea plant coming up, as well as the perennial chives and rhubarb... The strawberries and raspberries look healthy, too, but of course aren't anywhere near blooming yet.

@TheHorse North, yes, but not that far north... a little farther south than Coos Bay, Oregon.

Good luck to you! You're North of me, so you're on a different "schedule."

How nice it is! Unfortunately I don't have a place to plant something in my apartment. My parents already plant some vegetables in their balcony. Nowadays I think it is better to plant some vegetables rather than flowers.

My harvest is always very small (at home). I do it more for the pleasure of doing it than for sustaining myself.

You have to plant cilantro earlier, now it is getting too warm it will not grow up well. My cilantro is healthy and big now, but I planted in late February.

I will try to remember that. Cilantro. Early. I may try anyway.

@TheHorse you have a few! And plants in sneaky weird places is one of them. I challenge you to stick corn seeds (or sunflower, or something crazy) in 10 odd places this week!

In the Midwest, we used to say "knee high by the 4th of July" in reference to corn. When does corn hit "knee high" up there?

@TheHorse I have never heard that. Neither has Hubby. We plant corn after May 24th. We have the long sunlight hours and it ripens towards the end of August.

We got seeds for some plants in February this year, around 20th. One of the plants Okra(Ladyfinger or Bhindi)showed signs of growth early on, but has not grown fully of late. We have tried many things, but looks like a lack of yard space(we are not on the ground floor) is hampering our efforts. Do enjoy the spring time!

I love cilantro (its great in Thai soup, Mexican food, and other things), but I am not yet an expert in growing it.

Nice to see those plants sprouting up! We have lettuce & tomatoes ready to go but due to some recent frost warnings in the evening I've hesitated to plant them yet. Maybe this weekend!
