Just a bit over $500 left to go!!!!

I'm not at that stage in my life yet where I can afford my own place or car therefore I technically have never had any bills. I do pay my dad rent and I pay for my own phone credit, clothes, medications etc. My dad has been kind enough to help me here and there if I'm struggling to afford certain things or if I need a credit card to pay for something as I do not have one. The most expensive item my dad helped me get recently was a new bed. I can't remember how much it cost but he helped me get a new one as the older one was causing me neck and back aches. So a new bed which obviously meant new sheets, blankets and pillow cases as it was a bigger bed. I have been trying hard over time to pay off my debt to my dad for everything he has paid for me. The total was over $3000 (just from multiple items or occasions I needed financial help with). I recently got a stimulus payment which I wasn't expecting to be honest. I kept checking to see if I was eligible but it wasn't showing online but then I saw my bank account. Yeah, I got some extra money. But I didn't use it for myself. I used a lot of my savings and the recent stimulus payment to pay off a huge chunk of debt. I managed to give my dad back $1950. I'm left with nothing again (except some bus / train money) but I'm happy to have paid off that amount and now with roughly $550 to go and I will be completely debt free from my dad. I'm just very happy about it because this has been hanging over my head for a long time. I pay what I can and when I can to lower my debt but this time was finally a huge whooper. I'm glad my dad has helped me and isn't hounding me but I feel much better paying back as much as I can and eventually will be debt free. And when I am debt free, I can finally start saving money for other things I need / want without that weight being on my shoulders. I'm just happy.

You are so sweet Dani, I am sure that your Dad would let you keep the rest of the money, but I understand you very well. You are a good family.

@VivaLaDani13 You know perfect families do not exist, there is all the time something weird, a few little things that we would like different. The important is to go on well together without major problems.

@LadyDuck Thank you very much! We are an ok family lol We can be quite good but oh boy, if you knew the history or what happens nowadays. One day I might vent about it on here but yeah, I love my family very very much but I won't lie, some have said or done things that are just....hard to get over. But they do have a great side where they share, help, laugh, give advice etc so that's good. It's just the other side to them that is hard to accept or get over.

@LadyDuck oh yeah I know that for sure. I know no family is perfect. I just mean, there has been a lot of things that has happened within our family that has been damaging. I know that overall, I think we are a good family....maybe lol I don't know. It's hard to say being smack bang in the middle. But yeah I know what you're saying for sure. I mean yes we are a good family that we are there for one another but overall, it can be hard when people like my Aunty is mean at times or my brother is selfish or my dad has some anger issues etc. They aren't bad people really. Just some things they have said or done is difficult and some things have been traumatising. Like for example, I'm scared of knives and that was due to my parents. Which isn't a good thing or wasn't a good experience. Stuff like that.

@m_audrey6788 Thank you very much and yeah I am. I don't like being in debt or being in the position I am in, in general but have had a lot of hurdles in my life that has caused me issues and to move forward. I'm slowly but surely getting there.

@VivaLaDani13 I am scared to go in any debt. This is reason why I didn't took any loan so far.

I am glad that you are so hard working. Others would not consider paying back their parents for buying them household items or other things.

@Treborika Thank you very much for your kind words. I am just someone who likes to pay people back if they have helped me. I don't believe in not giving it back. I would feel too guilty.

Good for you! That is a good feeling. I put my stimulus toward a credit card I had a debt with for quite some time...it just wasn't going anywhere.. so it definitely does feel like a relief. I don't live with my parents, but as a 29 year old adult, I bought my FIRST new bed like a week ago. Truly. The others I had been getting for free or hand-me-downs from others. That felt good, too. lol.

@maezee Thank you kindly. It really is a great feeling indeed! I'm happy to know you were able to help pay off a debt! Good on ya! That is awesome! That made me smile and I'm so happy you were able to do that. It feels even better when you're in the position to buy it rather than financial help or hand-me-downs! Well done!

It's so nice to see someone of your generation taking debt seriously even when it is money owed to a parent. I know so many people of your age who would treat that sort of financial help as a gift and almost just expect parents to bail them out as an when required. You have a great attitude. Keep going. You will get there.

@VivaLaDani13 You should feel happy about yourself. You've not had it easy but you refuse to let things get you down and you refuse to take the easy path. As they say in certain parts of the world, you've got balls kid!

@Sojourn I have heard about that tradition before and I think it's cool! I know that many parents here will do that. I am personally happy about paying my dad back. I mean as a child, my dad ( well mum and dad ) supported me where I didn't have to pay back but being an adult, things change and I prefer paying back. Thank you so much for your kind words!
