Feeling WAY beyond Shocked!

Canada

It has been 2 weeks since a gunman opened fire in a slew of rural Nova Scotian towns, killing 22 people in what they are calling Canada's worst mass shooting. If I had been blind before, my eyes were opened wide in the days following this horrific incident. This incident affected me on a very deep level, as I have known the gunman and called him a friend for 20 years. When I read his name in the newsfeed and what he had done, my whole nervous system went into shock. The man I (thought?) I knew was a very sweet, gentle and loving person. He had a heart of gold and if I ever needed anything, he was the first responder. I knew he had a shady side when it came to some business dealings, but it never bordered on hurting anyone but himself if luck ran out. He did have an obsession with money. For him, too much money was never enough. As more details about him, his business dealings and the people he's hurt arise to the surface, I have to question hard if I ever really KNEW him. My heart is broken, but my spirit recovered.

Being from New Brunswick this has really affected me too. I can't even imagine how you feel having known the gunman. My heart hearts for you. You can message me anytime. Being Maritimers know I am always there for you. Hugs.

Thank you Laurel. It shook me up for a few days but I'm doing much better now. I keep asking WHY??, but I guess it isn't for me to try and understand.

Am sorry to know but this could be an incident where the person may have felt blank and shoot but it's still crazy

The RCMP think it was premeditated. They found a hit list at his home in Dartmouth. He was wearing a police uniform, driving a mocked up RCMP vehicle. What is eerie is that an episode of FBI Most wanted that aired 5 days before, was about a police officer named "Gabriel" who donned his uniform and went on a shooting spree.

It would surely hurt deeply if you know the person as a friend. Were his victims innocent bystanders? What has our world come to?

That had to have been a big shock to you. You think you know someone and than they do something bad and that makes you wonder about that person.

It does sound like she's in shock. I would be too if I knew someone that would do this kind of thing.
