Frugal lunches with leftovers.

Today I started to clean up my fridge and I found a beautiful piece of leftover red cabbage. I have onions, green apples that Claudia brought me and a couple of smoked bratwurst. I have everything to cook my grandfather´s favorite dish. My grandfather on my father´s side came from Germany. He came to Chile to work here for a couple of years and do some sightseeing. Here he met my grandmother, daughter of people who had come to Chile some years ago. They fell in love and the rest is part of my story. He never could go back to Germany to see his parents as the first WW made it impossible. But my grandmother learned from his German friends to cook some of his favorite dishes and this was, by far, number one. It is served with a cooked potato and as I have all the ingredients it will cost me nothing.
