Storms and seedlings

Here is a photo of my seedlings before I covered them up. I have six lettuce seedlings in troughs like this one then there are broccoli and cabbage seedlings in a raised bed which I photographed for the last discussion. We had quite severe storms in south-west Western Australia last night so I'll leave the seedlings covered today as well. There are 55,000 homes without power, some of these as a result of trampolines being blown up onto power lines. We’ve had a ladder blow over. It was propped against the roof. And a plastic table has been overturned. Maybe the winds were strong enough to blow our drone out of the tree. Thankfully we rarely have much damage from storms. We brought the generator over from the shed. The power did go off but only for a short while.

@LowRiderX I probably shouldn't be growing it going into winter, not that it matters much.

Gee, that's 55,000 homes without power amid the storm. It would be a scary night.

@JudyEv we have a torch in every room. The other night we had a power failure that made us panic because there was no storn so maybe it was due to technical problems. Fortunately it lasted for only 5 minutes.

@Alexandoy Our lights flickered a few times then eventually went off for about 15 minutes but by then we were already in bed.

Yes, a lot of homes. We made sure we knew where our torches were while we still had lights to find them.

@JudyEv Thats good that you are protected. When we lived in Vegas, I loved it because there was never any bad weather or tornadoes.

@JudyEv yeah, I figured out I need some more supplies for things like gardening. More tomato cages, and such

It doesn't take a lot of wind to mess with some things.

We've been without the internet all day but that's okay. I read a lot of my book instead.

I need to cover my tomato plant I think because it will be extremely cold Sat. Night. Also, I have one I was going to plant, I need to hold off until that is over..very odd for us.

I'm beginning to wonder what I'm doing planting tomatoes and lettuce at the moment. We just going to get more and more rain and probably wind over the next few months as it's nearly winter. Surely these would be summer crops.

I planted lettuce seeds but they have taken a lot of time growing. I hope we can grow them in spite of the winter. I have them covered in the terrace.

@JudyEv Leaf veggies can grow in a sunny place if we cover it from the morning frost. At least I´m gambling on that

They are but I think I should have left the lettuce in the shop. It's really a summer crop and here it's going into winter.

That’s so neat your lettuce is growing well. I should plant the seeds I have. That sounds like an awful storm for the trampolines to hit power lines wow!

No, I don't because we are away a lot. But with the social distancing, we will be at home a lot more so planting vegetables will be an interest.

With no power, we have no water which is a big thing. Of course, it's nice to have a back-up for the fridges too.
