So, what's your opinion on the mask/no mask debate?

Back in January, our grandson heard the news about an unknown virus out of China. He went and bought a package of the best masks he could find. We thought, "Oh, that's so sweet of him. But really, a virus that's on the other side of the world?"
Little did we know. Here we are four months later and our world has turned on its head. First, it was you're ridiculous for being concerned and you certainly don't need to wear a mask!
Then it was, well, you can wear a mask if you really want to.
Now, it's, you better wear that mask or you'll be arrested!
I don't know how much of these restrictions are rational. People have lost their jobs and can't pay their bills. One state says it's safe to open your business while another says you absolutely will add to the death toll if you step foot outside your house.
I know that those of us of a "certain" age have to be more careful than some younger ones. Even if the lock downs are not necessary, I will take all the precautions possible because of being in the high risk category.
It won't matter much whether the quarantines were necessary if I'm not alive to know it.
So, I will wear my mask and gloves when I go out. I'll wash my hands frequently and use hand sanitizer. I'll disinfect everything but the cat. (She's on her own with that.)
I pray most of us will survive the virus and/or the laws that may or may not keep us safe, but it's sad that many people may never recover financially.

I do exactly as you do. When I go out I wear a mask and gloves, I wash my hands, I sanitize the surfaces in the home I only go out once a week for grocery shopping (early in the morning during the "seniors" hours).
I am really sad for those who lost their life and also for those who will be without a job, we are facing hard times financially speaking.

@1creekgirl It is very difficult to distinguish between people who carry viruses and those who don't, because some carriers have no visible symptoms.

@May2k8 You're right, a person can be contagious long before symptoms appear.

I have no problem wearing a mask , washing and sanitizing my hands more often, I think the real problem are the people who don't want to do the same, people who don't follow rules like social distancing are the real problem. I wonder what makes it so difficult to follow simple rules to keep everyone safe, weren't they taught to do that when they were children? The virus is probably laughing at us humans
I had been without a stable income for almost 2 months now but by God's grace I have provisions to last me several months more and provided I play my cards right after this I would be fine, I'm feeding 8 people in my household including myself.

@1creekgirl God provides, God knows his children and takes care of those who loves Him and honors His name, I cling to that promise that's why I'm not afraid of tomorrow, he takes care of my family, my mother and 2 relatives that we adopted and welcomed into our home, I pay my worker even if I'm not making much these days

We left Florida early thanks to the covidiots who live there.
Our state of Connecticut is one of the few, smart states staying safe and closed.
Our town requires masks for all, even while out walking.
Hopefully, with masks, gloves, staying a safe distance, hand washing, etc., we will remain safe until a good vaccine comes out.

Sounds like good common sense rules. Stay as safe as you can. Love "covidiots". Lots of them around!

@1creekgirl Thanks and stay safe, too.
Unfortunately, the covidiots will keep the virus going.
We are in self quarantine now. Who knows what we brought back to Connecticut from Florida and our stops along the way home.

I'm with Carol.
They've said too much, half of which then flipped around to be opposite of whst they first said.
I'm just wearing my mask when need be and sometimes gloves.

I am on a self imposed quarantine while parts of my country go in and out of a legally imposed one. I think all of us will have financial problems after this except the very rich who will find a way to get richer with it.

We feel safer going out wearing a mask.
Its not the law here, but most wear them.
What I dislike is when you go out for a walk, without a mask, and you meet someone wearing a mask and they do not practise physical distancing.
Both are necessary in my opinion.
I think that I need 1 of those 2 metre hats that kids are wearing.

@1creekgirl You'll have to research them. They are taking the measures to the extreme, but for those of us will ill health it isn't a bad thing.

Your grandson had a lot of forethought to buy masks so early. With all the conflicting information it’s hard to know what to do for the best, but like you say we can just all try to do our best and hopefully we’ll all be ok.

Your grandson had a vision and now you see what happened with his vision. Each place whether state or country decides what they will do. Here they are reopening things but not all at once and watching to see how it is going on whether we go backwards or whether we can open more. I am not happy about things I need to be up and running, but, I understand why our leaders decided what they decided. I have to wear a mask because the last time talked to my doctor he told me I have to. I will wear it for as long as I have to. I pray that it is will be over soon so so many people will no longer suffer.

I would say that every country has its own rules, somewhere under 'you have to' and somewhere 'if you want' I didn't wear a mask or gloves, most would probably say, 'she lives on the edge'

I'll wear one inside a business or when I'm close to people outside. If I'm walking by myself in the park, no mask.

It is a really difficult time at the moment. You have such a huge country there with so many different regions and laws and ways of dealing with things. Our state has been a week with no new cases and restrictions are slowly being lifted.

If you catch the virus, you can't go back and wish you'd been more careful. Of course, I know that even those who are being very careful still get sick sometimes.
