Finding friends from the past

MyLotter Kharla Jolly (@kobesbuddy), in her discussion, https://www.mylot.com/post/3366891/looking-up-a-high-school-friend-on-facebook mentioned that she is going to try to get in touch with an old school friend via Facebook. Several of our towns here FB sites called Lost (insert name of town here). People put up old photos of themselves, maybe school photos and street scenes and share reminiscences. Former residents might add their memories and share photos. There is a lot of ‘Does anyone know what happened to so-and-so?’ or ‘does anyone remember the day it snowed’. These ‘Lost’ sites have reunited a lot of people with friends from their past. Vince is a member of the Lost Narrogin group. Narrogin is our old home town which I wrote about yesterday. The photo is of my sister’s garden in Narrogin.

Your sister has a lovely garden and I guess those are roses. It sounds like a wonderful way to find lost friends. I have found most of my friends through FB but still a few are missing that I would want to get in touch with.

Yes, they are her roses. She has moved to a smaller house on the property of one of her sons now. The house is rented out.

@arunima25 As far as I know, they are looking after the garden very nicely.

@JudyEv Oh! lucky tenants. They get such a pretty garden. Hope they are fond of it and do a good job to maintain it.

And Vince is definitely enjoying membership, with the Lost Narrogin group:) This was a great idea, from whoever organized the site! In the U.S. it's hard to find some of our schoolmates, if they haven't joined Facebook, Twitter, or another social group.

All those in the older age groups have a great time sharing times and putting up photos of perhaps sports teams, balls, etc.

@JudyEv Some of the boys I had a crush on and dreamed they'd ask me out. Now when I see them, I laugh(within my head)! LOL

Just one week back one of friends created a group on Whatsapp for our school friends... it was really amazing.... I got chance to connect with friends whom I have not met for nearly 30 years.

It's really nice to catch up again after so many years. Have you seen photos of your friends? Have they changed much?

I haven't heard of anything like that, but it seems a neat way to keep track of people, like the garden shot.

It's been good for all the old residents who spent many years there.

Social media is a great tool for finding people. But I wonder why I couldn't find the person I am looking for. Not a trace.

@Alexandoy Some people do not reveal their true identity on social media, so they are not detectable easily. Yet, sometimes it is safer not to reveal the true identity on social media.

@JudyEv but for the young, they should be in Facebook.

I guess there are some who don't 'do' FB. I have an account but never go there. Vince tells me what's happening.

@JudyEv I used to love gardening as well, as it was something my mother and father loved to do, but over the years I got away from it as I either didn't have the time, or didn't have the space. I've really been wanting to get back into it, as I have the space now, but my problem I need to overcome is that my entire front and back yard are completely shaded from large oak and pine trees, so I do not get enough sunlight peeking through to be suitable enough to grow fruits, vegetables and flowering plants.

@moffittjc There are shade-loving plants but the soil is probably a bit depleted too with big trees around.

It would be a wonderful thing for some to be able to reconnect with old friends. Some would need the connection more than others.

Social media have been of a great help in getting back in touch with lost friends. I checked several of my old friends, but as almost all of them I married, I think they are registered with their husband last name, that I do not know. Very pretty garden.

On this site, someone occasionally asks 'does anyone ever hear from xxx?' and nearly always, someone has news of them.

I take the attitude that there was a reason I allowed myself to lose touch with the people I'm no longer in touch with.

@JudyEv Maybe they would. I suspect that most of those I've lost touch with aren't particularly bothered though.

That's nice, I feel the nostalgia when I remember the school days but after so many years I'm not sure I would have anything to talk to them, I mean ... where would I start. I am in contact with only two people from that period
