Someone nailed my truck in the parking lot! I am SO pissed off.

You know that I was rear-ended last Summer up in Montana. I was able to get the old truck fixed, and even saved a few bucks by doing some of the work myself. Yesterday I discovered that someone had hit my truck in two separate place while I was parked somewhere. It was either at the bank or at Safeway. I don't go out much these days. The note they left under my windshield wiper read as folows: "I am so sorry I damaged your truck. I was distracted while parkng. My phone numer is XXX-YYY-ZZZZ. My insurance number is Farmers DJFHDJHFGD.." Of course, the previous paragraph is fiction. I am sure they "fled the scene" as soon as they realized what they had done. So one of my tasks for today is to see if I can "undo" the scratches using Maguiar's #7, the same stuff I used on scratched guitars. I'll attach a "before" photograph on the lesser insult. I think I can fix this one But I'm not so sure about the other one. Have you ever had someone scratch you car and "flee the scene"?

My little Geo Metro Got smashed like that. My brother who was from Kansas was staying with us and heard the crunch and like this idiot always leaves his windows down, I should go check told him about when Mountain was on fire and left windows down my little Geo looked like a big ash tray. I hear Louie, yeah whats up bro, think your car is done for. What do you mean? Some one just smashed it and drove off it was a white van. The times it pays off to have a cheap car. Called insurance, you only have liability, car is done we cannot do anything for you. Hey jerks still runs great who cares about body damage. Police told me yeah we could do a paint sample to find out who it is but that is costly and still no guarantees because van could be stolen. You SOL partner I appreciated his honesty at least. Left car there so who ever it was would feel guilty. All I got was a city message you need to move your car because makes city look bad. These people, are sick and twisted. They won, I slowly moved my car to the back. Hang on I can fix that noise, bent back the twisted metal, there we go she roaring like a tiger now.

@TheHorse I more or less gave it away. 100 bucks but how good that engine was people say I was dumb. I was not greedy in those days now I am like would take a wrecked Geo and sell that engine like a gold nugget.

I almost typed "we have lots of hit-and-runs here in California." Then I looked up and remembered that you're from California. Glad it runs.

@TheHorse Just a small dent so no worry. Just would have been nice if they said something.

I'm so sorry about that! It's so frustrating when you can't find the one who did it.

Some day I'll do a post about how Ms Horse and I watched from Jamba Juice (we were out cycling) as middle-aged housewife RAMMED a parked car while she was trying to park. We continued to watch as she sheepishly drove off, hoping nobody had noticed, and parked by the Safeway, about 80 yards away. Can you guess what we did?

@TheHorse Good for you. Evil never pays in the long run. Well, the evil person probably paid a lot.

@1creekgirl Or not. A friend watched someone get gas and run, and got their license plate number. And descriptions of the perps. The police would not go after them because (they said) they could not prove who was driving the car and the time of the theft.

@paigea I succeeded on the one shown in the picture. The other is deeper and proving more difficult.

Ouch. That is very unfortunate to happen in a parking area. The note added insult to injury.

Note? There was no note. I was just joshing. It will be a cold day in hell when a Californian admits fault and leaves a note.

@TheHorse He might try to erase the odd scratch but that's about it. Uses some sort of paste/compound to ease away the scratch.

I have had it happen so rarely. I know that "half of all drivers are below average," but I guess I've been lucky.
